The Essential BoCo Earth Day Guide

Donate TodaySUPPORT LOCAL MEDIA-DONATE NOW!

With April in the near future (ya know, Tuesday) it goes without saying that you need to start making Earth Day plans. The former hippie holiday has grown into an occasion for us all to show Mama Earth some love and get in touch with our environmentally friendly sides. To help you do just that, we’ve gathered some ideas for local eco-fun to get in on. Plus, it’ll get you amped for our upcoming Green Issue.

13th Annual Wild Earth Day

Wild Bear Mountain Ecology Center, Nederland, April 27, 11 am

As BoCo’s largest Earth Day event, the whole family can enjoy a free day of entertainment (climbing walls, raptor presentations) and education about planet Earth. Be sure to catch the climate talks in the solar powered presentation tent, because if nothing else, it will sound cool to say that you did.

Erie Arbor Day & Earth Day Celebration

Erie Community Park, Erie, April 26, 10 am

In another annual Earth shindig, you’ll plant trees, walk away with free seedlings, and be entered into drawings for “green” prizes and gift cards.

Earth Day 5K

Center for ReSource Conservation, CU Environmental Center, April 20, 10 am

It’s hands down the “greenest” 5K going on during the week. Runners are asked to bring their own means of hydration, because you won’t find any of those Dixie paper cups being handed to you (and subsequently tossed on the ground).

Earth Day Repurposing Event

pARTiculars Art Gallery & Teaching Studio, Lafayette, April 18, 4 pm, $5

Collect your old flower pots, picture frames—and whatever other objects you have laying around—and transform them into art. Wine corks and other recycled materials will be on hand to help create your masterpieces.

Allegro Earth Day Event

Allegro Coffee Co., Thornton, April 18, 10 am, Free

Enjoy all the free (environmentally-friendly) coffee and tea that your palate desires, and stock up on organic compost and burlap giveaways for mulching. Bonus: the first 50 customers in the cafe will get an heirloom tomato plant.

Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocers

Various locations all around Boulder County

As per tradition, the health food store will be giving away free Natural Grocers bags (with this year’s unique Earth Day design) to all customers.
