Fort Collins Brewery’s Malt Monster 5k – October 11
Fort Collins Brewery, an up and coming brewery in Ram Country, Colorado (the best stretch of country in the world), is putting on one monster of a 5k. Not only do you get to counteract that pesky exercise with free beer, but you can also score a massage, cool prizes, take pictures in a free photo booth, dress up for the costume contest, meet the Malt Monsters themselves (a group of artisanal brews released each month in Fort Collins’ limited bomber series) along with so much more. If you’re thinking we’re stopping there then you haven’t watched enough late night info-mercials. On top of the free beer every runner gets a chip timed custom race bib and an FCB sports pack which includes a custom pint glass for all the beer you’ll drink after the race. There will be games for adults and kids alike, giveaways, an awards party and, did we mention, FREE BEER! The event begins at 10am but packet pick up starts on Oct. 10 at 4pm at Fort Collins Brewery. Registration is $29 which helps benefit FoCo Café, a local nonprofit organization. Call 970-472-1499 or go to the Fort Collins Brewery website for ticketing/information.

Boulder Facial Hair Club 2nd Annual Competition – October 25
What is it about beards that drive us absolutely batty? Be it a well groomed handle-bar moustache or the long flowing mastery of a wizard’s beard, facial hair has always captivated and awed us. Coming off the huge success of their 2013 Competition, the Boulder Facial Hair Club is again holding their “Bearding” (a sanctioned and now world renowned sport) event for facial hair fortitude. This year most of the proceeds go to Rocky Mountain Cancer Assistance (RMCA), a nonprofit Colorado based organization that helps patients with cancer pay for basic living expenses. The event will be held at the Dickens Opera House and will highlight numerous categories such as Moustache, Business Beard, Female Artistic and the Yeard, a yearlong beard growing competition that requires competitors to shave in house and record their progress. The event sold out last year and plans to draw even more patrons and competitors this year. The competition starts at 7:30pm and tickets start at $10. Call 303-834-9384 for tickets and information.

The Shining Ball – October 25
Having inspired the setting of the 1980 Stanley Kubrick horror/thriller it is only fitting that the infamous Stanley Hotel hosts this Shining themed gala. Those brave enough to attend will be treated to the upmost elegance the Stanley Hotel can offer with just a dash of the macabre that every patron hopes for. The ball will play host to live entertainment, a Jack Nicholson impersonator, Shining themed events and an extravagant costume contest which can win you up to $500. Food and drinks will be served alongside the event which all takes place in the Hotel’s MacGregor Ballroom, with REDRUM most likely being the house specialty. You must be 21 years of age or older to attend the ball and a costume is highly recommended. The festivities begin at 8pm and tickets are $325 per couple or $175 per person. Call 970-586-3371 for information or go to the Stanley Hotel website to purchase tickets. If you’re on the fence about this event, please let Yellow Scene remind you that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Fall Back Beer Festival – November 1
Whether you’re looking for some hair of the dog or just want to learn how to brew your own beer the Fall Back Beer Festival at the Estes Park Events Complex is for you. This beer event is one of kind in that, not only can you sample and buy over 100 unique beers from 30 different Colorado breweries, but you can learn how to concoct your own brew at home. The American Homebrewers Association will be present and will offer sampling and demonstrations for those interested in learning how to brew from home. Beer glass experts, professional food pairings, samples from hop farms, giveaways and more are just a few of the highlights at this unique beer fest. If that’s not enough adventure for you, 30 people will get to have dinner with the brewers after the event in the VIP Overlook Lounge. The dinner will include a three course meal with your choice of beer flight. All food pairings for the event and dinner are prepared by certified cicerones. The event is family friendly but you must be 21 years or older to drink. Tickets start at $30. Call 970-586-6104 for ticketing and information.
