When LA rapper MURS and Miami hip-hop group ¡Mayday! Decided to collaborate on an album and then tour together, fans were understandably excited. The reports so far suggest that they haven’t been disappointed, and the ¡Mayday! x MURS ¡MURSDAY! tour arrives in Colorado Springs on December 12, Denver on December 13 and Fort Collins on December 14. We spoke with MURS and ¡Mayday!’s Wrekonize to find out what we can expect.W

Yellow Scene: How did you guys hook up?

Wrekonize: We’ve been fans of Murs for a long. We had a common bond with Strange Music. We’d been signed for about a year, and Murs fit perfectly on a song that we had called “Hardcore Bitches.” We started linking up here and there, and we joked around about doing a project. It sparked up on Twitter between Bernz (of ¡Mayday!) and Murs, and fans started jumping on it. So we did a collaboration album.

YS: How has the tour been going so far?

W: It’s been good, man. It’s been a little cold for all of our likings. I guess only the Kansas City on our bus are used to this, but the weather in the beginning was terrible. Very cold. We’ve had some great shows. Seattle was great. Madison, Wisconsin, was great. Tucson was awesome. We had fun in Vegas. Fort Worth, Texas, was a good one. We’re in the home stretch and we’re just trying to keep the energy up right till the last show.

YS: Is Colorado a place that you guys like coming to?

W: It’s one of Strange Music’s biggest markets, and it’s always been one of the places where we’ve always been shown the most love. Every spot that we’ve ever gone to has been cracking. It’s a great place to end the tour. We’ve done some tours that started there, and it’s tough because the shows are so good that then you are chasing that show again for the rest of the tour. Having it end in Colorado is great because you get to end the tour at it’s pinnacle.

YS: What can fans expect from the set?

MURS: You can expect a lot of jumping, dancing, and basically the best rap show you’ve ever seen in your whole life.

YS: What do you have coming up after this tour?

M: I have a solo record coming out in the spring, so I’ll be working on that and trying to go platinum.

W: We have an album coming out later in the year, probably around fall. We’re doing some solo projects in the group – Gianni Cash has a production record that’s going to come out sometime next year and Bernz is going to release a solo project of some sort as well.

MURS and ¡Mayday! Play with CES CRU, Kap Kallous, and Kontrast & Fo Chief, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 13 at the Marquis Theater; 2009 Larimer St., Denver; 303-487-0111; $20-$22.
