It’s called news because, well, it’s new – it’s the stuff you’ll want to read about. No foreign policies, committee meetings, or any other irrelevant-to-you information. We bring to the table what truly matters: wholesome local updates. Sink your teeth into our monthly food news round-up and keep that belly happy:

  • Sad things first. Arugula, neighborhood eatery in North Boulder, closed down in January. But something new and exciting is coming! You can still enjoy Arugula’s fellow, Tangerine, a restaurant that offers innovative morning plates with that same Mediterranean twist.

  • 5th Annual CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Fair will be hosted by Boulder County Farmers’ Markets at Rayback Collective on February 12th. You’ll get a chance to connect with local farmers and even take a yoga class. Admission is free, so no excuses – go and have fun! More info on Rayback’s Facebook page or on Eventbrite.

  • Two new restaurants are planning to open among the good eats in downtown Lafayette. TJ Ingram is adding a second Verde location in Louisville; he started the Sonoma-style Mexican concept as a food truck six year ago, and has been operating as a brick and mortar restaurant in Boulder for the last three. A team of foodie fellas are bringing us Cuban food with Coabana. Jesse Gossett and Mike Boselli from Press Play and Patrick Walsh, whose projects include Bittersweet Café and Confections and Pôr Wine House, are at the helm.

  • Cooking classes at Food Lab are selling out quickly. What’s the secret ingredient? A lot of practical experience in a supportive setting. You get to taste your masterpieces afterward and, of course, have some wine or beer. There are still spots available for February; reserve yours online before they all get scooped up. Don’t snooze on an opportunity to learn all about vegetable cookery and dip your toes into meat preparation (not literally, please).

  • Centro Mexican Kitchen brought on Johnny Curiel as the new chef de cocina. His food is influenced by growing up in Guadalajara and later traveling throughout Mexico as a young chef. Another member of the Big Red F family, The Post, has opened a new spot in Boulder and their new brewer Nick Tedeschi introduced his first in-house crafted beer, the Pub Style Ale. According to him, “This beauty has a biscuity malt flavor, rounded out with an earthy floral hop and a nice crisp finish.”

  • Alfalfa’s Market was sold to investors who plan to revamp the Boulder location and expand the chain up and down the Front Range. Fate has a new storefront in Lafayette, which makes us happy.

  • Proper Coffee is ready to satisfy the caffeine cravings (make ours a double) or a desire for something stronger. They are open daily between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and welcome anyone on the mission to spend some quality time whether it’s work or leisure.

  • Finally, and maybe the most exciting news in the eyes of BoCo pre-teens… Regal Cinema announced they are rolling out Cheetos Popcorn at their Longmont location in 2018! It’s super cheesy, super crunchy, and super bad. Well, maybe not that bad, as far as guilty pleasures go.
