Building a Legacy: City Park and Lafayette Farmers Markets Return with a Focus on Reinvesting in Communities

Running May Through October, Both Markets Serve as a Connection Point for Consumers, Producers, Chefs and Ingredients – Building a Stronger and More Purposeful Food System in Colorado

DENVER – March 31, 2026 – This May, City Park Farmers Market opens for its sixth season, and Lafayette Farmers Market returns for its second, with a joint vision of building stronger communities through food. Owners Peter and Margo Wanberg are focused on connecting the next generation of food producers and consumers to create a more collaborative and resilient local food system.

City Park Farmers Market has established itself as an anchor of the Denver community: a third space for neighbors, a destination for chefs, and a supportive platform for producers. In just one season, Lafayette Farmers Market has quickly gained momentum, with strong support from residents and local businesses and a clear path toward becoming a lasting community fixture.

The Wanbergs want to transcend the idea of farmers’ markets as only events and invite people to look at the bigger picture of what they’re growing: a community-led food ecosystem where markets serve as a catalyst – strengthening the connection between the people who grow food and the people who enjoy it.

This season reflects that growth. Lafayette is expanding its vendor count from 60 to 85, with City Park welcoming over 100+ vendors. Both have new farms, returning favorites, and an array of specialty food producers, giving marketgoers access to the same high-quality ingredients chosen and used by award-winning chefs and restaurants.

“This is where relationships start,” said Peter Wanberg. “People meet the folks growing their food, chefs connect directly with producers, and that changes how we think about food, where we buy it, and how it’s shared. That’s where real impact happens.”

Beyond shopping, City Park will feature monthly chef demos, a weekly run club, and regular educational programming. Both markets will have a regular schedule of live music from local acts.

Ultimately, the vision is long-term. By investing in local producers and fostering meaningful connections, the Wanbergs aim to build markets that not only serve their neighborhoods today but also help shape a more resilient and equitable food system for the future.

Market days, dates, hours, and locations are as follows:

Juried by Susan Dillon, a well-respected Colorado fiber and mixed media artist.

In this show, Core Art Space celebrates the skill, dedication, and ingenuity required to make beautiful art out of fiber materials. Long disparaged in the art world as mere “craft,” fiber art has been enjoying something of a renaissance in the last few years. Artists working with fabric and other fibers have gained international recognition, and the New York Times has declared that “fiber art is finally being taken seriously.” We say, it’s about time! What’s not to love about the beauty, versatility, and luxuriousness of fiber media?

Core requested artist’s most exquisite weavings, quilts, embroideries, beadwork, fiber sculptures, or wearables—any artwork using a foundation of fiber materials and processes (including fabric, yarn, thread, beads, roving, rope, etc.; stitching, weaving, felting, quilting, knotting, wrapping, lacemaking, etc.) Both traditional and experimental forms and techniques being welcomed.

A bit more about the juror Susan Dillon. Fiber and mixed media artist Susan Dillon explores the physical manifestation of emotions and memories using fabric, thread, yarn, bones and found objects. She creates environments filled with life forms, some familiar and some more otherworldly, which are encrusting surfaces & niches and colonizing their surroundings. Susan has had her work exhibited nationally and has won numerous awards for her fiber art. Her work is in private collections around the globe. She teaches workshops as well as private lessons on fiber art techniques. Susan lives in Denver, CO with her husband & furry “keeds”. She has her studio at Globeville Riverfront Art Center (GRACe), open by appointment and at special events.

The Core Annex will feature:

“of Women, by Women” – Wendi Richardson and Lynn Hurley

This show is a celebration of the power, beauty and brains of women. The featured artists are Wendi Richardson and Lynn Hurley

Lynn Hurley is a Colorado-based mixed media artist creating portraits and figurative works that celebrate the strength, beauty and complexity of women. With layered textures, fluid abstraction, and delicate detail, she captures the quiet power and luminous grace of the feminine spirit, inviting the viewer into a world where emotion and artistry entwine.

Wendi Richardson is also a Colorado-based mixed media artist. Her work varies, but her recent studies of the powerful women that influenced her career as a performing musician have come to the forefront of her art of late. Her representation of some of the most iconic females in the rock/punk scene of the 80’s and beyond show these magnificent women as they are today, still performing and having an impact on the world stage.
