Denver, CO – Beginning today, Colorado County Clerks may begin mailing ballots to active voters for the June 30, 2026 Primary Election.

“County clerks will mail ballots this week to Colorado voters,” said Secretary of State Jena Griswold. “I hope every eligible Coloradan will make their voice heard in the upcoming Primary Election.”

County Clerks must mail ballots to voters by Friday, June 12, for the Primary Election.

Coloradans who are affiliated with the Colorado Democratic Party, Colorado Republican Party, Libertarian Party of Colorado, or Unity Party of Colorado by June 8 will receive only the ballot of the party with which they are affiliated.

Unaffiliated voters will be sent a ballot for both the Democratic and Republican Party Primary Elections. They may also contact their County Clerk to request a Unity Party ballot. Unaffiliated voters may only vote one ballot.

The Libertarian Party of Colorado has prohibited Unaffiliated voters from voting in the Party’s Primary Election pursuant to 1-4-1304(1.5)(c) C.R.S.

DENVER: Two months after the Colorado Republican Party issued calls to burn Pride flags, ignore gun laws, and remove children from public schools, reports emerged Friday showing the state party had sent at least six endorsement emails attacking legislative candidates for participating in Pride events and standing up for LGBTQ rights. ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, called on GOP candidates Robyn Carnes (SD16), Stan VanderWerf (SD12), George Mumma (HD25), Dan Woog (HD25), Rebecca Keltie (HD16), and Nathan Butler (HD26) to condemn the hateful messages directed at their opponents and to renounce the support of the Colorado Republican Party.

“For months now, candidates and officials have turned a blind eye to the antics of the state Republican Party leadership unless it directly harmed their own campaigns,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Sara Loflin. “With these official endorsements, the unhinged and hateful rhetoric from the party headquarters is now a big problem for these candidates, forcing Colorado voters to question whether they agree with party leadership or they hope to accept the party’s tainted help without anyone noticing.”

On Friday, the Colorado Sun also reported that some Republican candidates were “moving on” without their state party, including former party chairman Kristi Burton Brown, who is a candidate for the Colorado State Board of Education.

“Attacking a lawmaker for the simple act of attending a Pride parade and calling him ‘anti-American’ is revolting and should not be tolerated by any opponent,” added Loflin. “If the former state party chair, who herself had ties to militia groups and total abortion bans, won’t accept the help from the Colorado Republican Party, then so can the rest of them. These candidates should make it clear to voters that they refuse to work with the state party and condemn their hateful messages.”

Press releases are provided to Yellow Scene Magazine. In an effort to keep our community informed, we publish some press releases in whole.

The Colorado News Collaborative (COLab), Colorado Press Association, Colorado Broadcasters Association, Colorado Media Project, Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition and Denver Press Club write to express our collective dismay and concern over the recent exclusion of Colorado Sun politics reporter, Sandra Fish, from the Colorado Republican Party state assembly.

Journalism serves as the cornerstone of a vibrant and functioning democracy, providing citizens with the information necessary to make informed decisions. The forcible removal of Ms. Fish from the assembly, under the pretext that her reporting was unfavorably viewed by the party’s chairman, stands in stark contrast to the principles of freedom of speech and the press enshrined in our Constitution.

Ms. Fish, a seasoned reporter with a career spanning decades, was unduly singled out and told that her presence was unwelcome, based on subjective assessments of her reporting. This action not only silences a respected voice in the field of journalism but also sends a chilling message to the press at large about the erosion of journalistic access and freedom within our state.

The Constitutionally protected role of journalists is to report facts and bring transparency to the workings of our society, especially our political institutions. By barring Ms. Fish from attending the assembly, the Colorado Republican Party risks obstructing the public’s right to receive comprehensive and unfiltered news about significant political events. This action not only undermines the essential role of the free press but also detracts from the democratic process by limiting the scope of public discourse.

This is not a partisan matter. We agree with the previous GOP state chair, Kristi Burton Brown, who posted on X, formerly Twitter, that the ouster was a “dangerous” move by her successor, adding: “Transparency is necessary for our nation.”

In light of these events, we urge the Colorado Republican Party leadership to reconsider its stance on press freedom and to acknowledge the vital role that journalists like Ms. Fish play in our democracy. It is imperative for all political organizations to operate with transparency and to allow media access to their proceedings, regardless of perceived criticisms. We stand in solidarity with Sandra Fish and all journalists who face barriers in their pursuit of truth and accountability.

Sincerely,

Colorado News Collaborative (COLab), Colorado Press Association, Colorado Broadcasters Association, Colorado Media Project, Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition, Denver Press Club
