Nine years of parenthood has given me a chance to witness childhood again. Even as middle-aged outsiders, my husband and I have been pulled back into an intense time warp, where seconds plod on interminably and years disappear in the blink of an eye. The title Trips Around the Sun was inspired from conversations with our kids, to help explain the passing of a year.

It seems that some things stay constant through the time warp. No matter what age, we have to cope with our differences, we try to express ourselves to each other, we come up against our limits. We are all awkward, vulnerable, and lovable. We might forget it sometimes, but we can be delighted and awestruck. The things that make childhood magical, do us good wherever we are on the timeline.

I wanted to go big and colorful, and to experiment with different mediums together, to prove to myself that nothing is stopping me in this short life and to see what I end up with. I hope this show will remind people of the kid inside them, too.
