NEWS RELEASE
April 10, 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Northwest Chamber Alliance supports SB25-161: Transit Reform

The Northwest Chamber Alliance advocates for the passage of House Bill 161 for Transit Reform, moving Colorado further towards ridership and sustainability goals

BOULDER, Colo. – Today, the Northwest Chamber Alliance announced its support of SB25–161: Transit Reform for our regional business community.

The Northwest Chamber Alliance advocates for regional business interests with a unified voice. Transportation is a critical need for our regional workforce, as well as our state. The need for RTD transparency, good governance, and enhanced ridership are all aspects of SB25-161: Transit Reform, that our 7 chambers can support and will continue to advocate for with a unified voice to our business community.

“Every member of our Northwest Chamber Alliance wants RTD to succeed in their transit service mission,” said John Tayer, President and CEO of the Boulder Chamber. “It’s critical to the mobility of our regional workforce. It’s critical to our shared regional economic vitality mission. And while we recognize that RTD is making strides in service improvements, SB25-161 and HB24-1447 will provide greater assurance that RTD’s transit investments are fully transparent and aligned with other regional transportation goals. That is how we build business community confidence in the efficiency and effectiveness of our regional transit system.”

“Transit equity is economic equity. SB25-161 represents a critical step toward building a more accessible, affordable, and sustainable transit system for all Coloradans—especially for those in historically underserved communities. At the Latino Chamber of Commerce, we believe that better transit means better access to jobs, education, and opportunity,” said Carla Colin, President of the Latino Chamber of Commerce Boulder County.

“SB25-161 moves RTD in the right direction—more accountability, better service, and stronger community partnerships. Reliable, connected transit is essential for meeting the workforce and customer needs of Superior’s businesses,” said Renee Alaniz, Executive Director of the Superior Chamber of Commerce.

The benefits of SB25-161 for our Northwest Chamber Alliance business community are…

1) Accountability Reform, by implementing increased oversight, SB25-161 makes sure RTD practices improved governance structure
2) Expanded access to EcoPasses and Low-Income Programs, will increase accessibility to transit for our workforce
3) Transparency: By implementing public dashboards, passengers get real-time data, meaning users can more readily access and track transit performance and safety
4) Increased Affordable Housing: SB25-161 plans to accelerate the rate of development for transit-oriented communities, increasing walkability and ridership bringing us closer to our state climate goals.
5) Shorter Wait: SB25-161 addresses the need for more frequent routes, getting riders to their destinations in a timelier manner

Press Releases are provided to Yellow Scene. In an effort to keep our community informed, we publish some press releases in whole.

Boulder, Colorado – The Boulder Chamber, in partnership with the Food Security Network (FSN), have announced their year-long food drive initiative benefiting Harvest of Hope Pantry and the Emergency Family Assistance Association (EFAA). Beginning in August, and running through the end of July 2024, we invite businesses and community members to play an active role in supporting those in need and working to overcome food scarcities in the Boulder Area. Those businesses interested in hosting a food drive, should complete an interest form.

“Supporting business success and economic vitality is, at its core, about helping people achieve financial security and realize their dreams,” said Boulder Chamber President and CEO John Tayer. “A responsible business community recognizes there are some who need additional assistance as they overcome barriers to economic independence. Providing food assistance is the foundation on which individuals and families can begin to build toward a more secure future.”

Multiple drop-off locations will be available and accepting donations throughout the duration of the food and supply drive. The collected donations will benefit and support Harvest of Hope Pantry and EFAA. With community members in need, we encourage you to find the nearest drop-off locations and join us as we begin this outreach initiative.

“In just the last year, demand at our food bank has increased 62%, and we are seeing 650 families and individuals using our food bank every week,” said Walter O’Toole, EFAA Food Bank Manager. “Food drives are a critical resource for us, stocking our shelves with a variety of high-quality foods, and creating long-lasting partnerships with Boulder businesses. Every food drive contributes to our missions to strengthen families and create a thriving community.” By working together to accomplish a mutual goal, Boulder Chamber and FSN encourage you to get involved in the food drive campaign as we work to eliminate food scarcities in our community.

“The fundamental purpose of the Food Security Network is to create systems change. Raising awareness of the root causes of food insecurity will help make that happen. In order to accomplish this, it is imperative that the community at large understand the prevalence of hunger in Boulder,” said Lenora Cooper of Food Security Network of Boulder and Broomfield Counties. “Up to 25 percent of Boulderites don’t have nutritious enough food to eat. In the short-term, this project will have a far-reaching impact to reduce food insecurity now. In the long run, the awareness raised will help us collectively make the systemic changes needed for true food justice.”

For more information on this community effort, please contact ellen@efaa.org; or jess.ramsey@hopepantry.org. More information will be released, including drop-off locations and accepted donations, through Boulder Chamber social media channels, newsletters, and media releases.

“If you have never watched your rights be taken away on television, you cannot begin to understand how LGBTQ+ people are feeling today. Today’s Creative 303 decision does not include a clearly defined legal limiting principle, the Supreme Court of the United States, in a 6-3 ruling, granted the right to some businesses to discriminate against a legally protected class of people for the first time in our history. This opinion is unclear, unsound, and may have an immense impact on the rights of all members of protected classes including LGBTQ+ people. The implications and parameters of this decision will be worked through the legal system for years to come, but we know that today, it allows discrimination against protected classes, including LGBTQ+ people.”

Bruce Parker, Deputy Director of Out Boulder County
“Today is a devastating day for LGBTQ+ people and anyone else who cares about equality and justice. Although the Creative 303 case was focused on LGBTQ+ people, this decision impacts anyone who is a likely target of discrimination and makes anyone in a protected class a potential target.
More than 350 Community Members, Business Leaders, and Elected Officials Come Together to Mark this Milestone

Boulder County, Colorado, April 7, 2022

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people are coming under attack from state legislatures across the country with at least 238 anti-LGBTQ pieces of legislation introduced so far in 2022. While LGBTQ people in Colorado are not currently facing this onslaught, challenges remain. Out Boulder County is marking the beginning of what will be a major milestone in their efforts to help members of the LGBTQ community meet those challenges by hosting the grand opening of their Equality Center of the Rocky Mountains on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 3340 Mitchell Ln., Boulder, 80301.

Editor’s Note: Press Releases are provided to Yellow Scene. In an effort to keep our community informed, we publish some press releases in whole.

“The opening of the Equality Center of the Rocky Mountains opens infinite possibilities for the LGBTQ community in Boulder and beyond. It is the culmination of years of effort by community members and leaders,” said Mardi Moore, Executive Director of Out Boulder County. “This grand opening and the increased programming and services that will be housed in the Center shows LGBTQ people that Out Boulder County has their backs and will stand with them.”

Out Boulder County started with a group of volunteers without an office or staff working to support their community. After nearly 30 years, the organization and community finally has a space that reflects their vitality and strength. The 9,505 square foot building will serve Boulder County and beyond as the primary location for community activities, as well as Out Boulder County’s administrative offices. The Center is a response to growing community needs and will accommodate rapidly expanding programming and services, continued community engagement efforts, and the organization’s growing staff.

Governor Jared Polis, Congressman Joe Neguse, Scott Beard, advisory board member of the Colorado LGBTQ Chamber, and John Tayer, President and CEO of the Boulder Chamber, will be speaking. Many other elected officials and candidates are planning to attend. Representatives from One Colorado and other community organizations will also be in attendance.

“We are deeply grateful to Governor Polis, the other elected officials, and business and community leaders who are attending the grand opening to show their support of Out Boulder County and LGBTQ people,” said Bryn Long, President of the Board of Directors of Out Boulder County. “The Equality Center of the Rocky Mountains will allow us to grow our current programs and services as well as create new ones to meet the evolving needs of the community. This is a major milestone for Out Boulder County and the LGBTQ communities in Boulder County and surrounding areas.”
