Death & Donuts Partners with Grieve Leave to Bring “Sad Hour” to Boulder

Community event invites honest conversations about grief, loss and life’s messy moments

BOULDER, Colo., July 23, 2026 — Death & Donuts, a Boulder-based community focused on making conversations about death, grief and mortality more approachable, has partnered with Grieve Leave, a national grief community founded by Rebecca Feinglos, to host Sad Hour on Aug. 6 from 5 p.m.- 7 p.m. at West End Tavern in downtown Boulder.

“Death & Donuts was created to make difficult conversations feel a little less difficult,” said Peri Rigler, founder of Death & Donuts. “Partnering with Grieve Leave allows us to bring a powerful idea to Boulder: that grief doesn’t have to be hidden, and that meaningful connection can happen in everyday places over a drink and a conversation.”

Sad Hour encourages attendees to leave behind the “I’m fine” response and talk openly about what they are carrying, whether it is the death of a loved one, a divorce, a health diagnosis, a major life change, or the everyday realities of being human. Cocktails, mocktails and nonalcoholic options will be available.

Grieve Leave founder Rebecca Feinglos launched the organization after experiencing the deaths of both of her parents by the age of 31, followed by a divorce. Recognizing the lack of casual, accessible spaces for grief conversations, she created Grieve Leave and its signature Sad Hour events to help people connect through shared experiences of loss and transition.

“Grief touches everyone, but many people feel isolated in it,” Feinglos said. “Sad Hour gives people permission to show up exactly as they are—without having to hide their sadness, explain their experience, or pretend they’re okay. We’re excited to partner with Death & Donuts to bring that experience to Boulder.”

Unlike traditional support groups, Sad Hour is designed as a casual social gathering where attendees can participate as much or as little as they choose. The event is not therapy, religious programming, or a clinical support session, but rather a community-centered opportunity for authentic connection. Tickets are available through Eventbrite.
