City’s Annual Tree Seedling Giveaway Returns for Arbor Day Appreciation

Join Boulder Forestry and community partners at Boulder Farmers Market on Saturday, April 18 for first come, first “treed” seedlings and free native plants.

BOULDER, Colo. – Back for another year, Boulder Forestry teams up with community partners PLAY Boulder Foundation and Cool Boulder to give out tree seedlings on Saturday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Boulder Farmers Market, located at 13th Street and Arapahoe Avenue. Community members can also pick up free native plants courtesy of Colorado State University Extension Master Gardeners.

Boulder Forestry and PLAY Boulder’s Tree Trust program staff will be at the event for community members to learn more about tree care and ask questions. Additional tree care tips can be found on Boulder Forestry’s webpage.

Properly placed and maintained trees are an asset to the environment and are critical to mitigating climate change. Trees provide shade and release moisture, making them an excellent tool in cooling our community, especially when the weather is hot. Directing limited outdoor water use to trees is important to keep them healthy during dry conditions.

“This community giveaway highlights the city’s commitment to protecting Boulder’s Urban Tree Canopy and ensuring our trees can thrive,” says Boulder Parks and Recreation Director Ali Rhodes. “During this Drought Watch, you may notice crews watering and tending trees regularly, but responsibly. This is necessary to protect these important green assets.”

City of Boulder Forestry will continue Arbor Day appreciation with their annual tree planting event later this month with local students at Bear Creek Elementary. This year, Boulder proudly celebrates its 43rd year as a Tree City USA and its seventh year as a Tree City of the World.
