It’s the time of year, folks. Time for an event where you can ride a mechanical bull, rope calves, toss chickens, puppet beer (yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like), listen to dance-inducing live Bluegrass music, eat good food and drink great beer. If you’re new to the area or thought that such a party does not exist, you’d  be gravely mistaken. You can do all of those activities and more at the fourth annual Howdy Fest in Lafayette, CO, hosted by BOCO-local, The Post Brewing Company. 

The extended neighborhood block party 2019 Howdy Fest will kick off on Saturday, September 28, going from 12:00-5:00 p.m. at the Post Brewing Co.’s Lafayette location – 105 W. Emma St., Lafayette, CO. Bowregard and Stillhouse Junkies, winner and runner-up of the 2019 Telluride Bluegrass Festival, will be on site to grace us with live Bluegrass music throughout the event. 

The Howdy Fest offers numerous activities, including all of the games mentioned above. We’d never even heard of beer puppeting, but we looked it up. Basically, the players each have a glass of beer hanging on strings that are attached to rods that they have to maneuver in order to get the glasses to their mouths to drink. We love drinking games. Additionally, prizes will be awarded to game winners! Who doesn’t like prizes?

The tummy-rumble inducing menu includes fried chicken, barbecue chicken, chicken and veggie brats, jumbo pretzels and farm-fresh sides, with an extensive beer selection as well. The Post Brewing Co.’s very own, award-winning Howdy Western Pilsner beer and Stem Ciders, Endo Brewing, Odd13, Front Range Brewing Co., Liquid Mechanics Brewing Co., and Cellar West Artisan Ales beers are available to satisfy your thirst. 

Tickets are $15 for entrance and a beer for 21+ guests, $10 for attendees ages 13-20, and free for guests 12 and under. All proceeds go to Pioneer Elementary School’s after school program in an effort to help provide fun and safe after-school activities for kids. Boulder Taco Fest doesn’t play. Unless you count Lucha Libre wrestling as a joke, in which case I challenge you to a match.

Boulder Taco Fest is almost here, y’all. On July 27, 2019, from 12 to 8 p.m. at Foothills Community Park in Boulder, Colorado, Colorado taco lovers will will gather for Boulder Taco Fest 2019. The event is brought to us by Boulder Taco Fest team with support from The Post Brewing Company, McDevitt Taco Supply, Cyclhops, Centro Mexican Kitchen, Jefes, Mojo Taqueria, and so many more. Importantly, and for context, the Boulder Taco Fest won the 2018 award for Best Beer Fest in the Rockies, by Elevation Outdoors Magazine. Why? Because of its awesome mix of great drinks, delicious food, and super fun entertainment.  It’s quickly becoming Boulder’s must-do event of the summer. You’ll enjoy amazing tacos and beer while Luchadores go at it and live music fills the venue. Fun games for all ages will keep a smile on your face all day long.

 

There will be five craft breweries on site, ten taco vendors, and yes, Lucha Libre wrestling. There’s something to be said for grown men dressed in spande, wearing Mexican masks, jumping off the ropes and diving into each other screaming in Spanish. Nothing beats it. If I recall correctly, there was a bit of wind and a bit of rain last year but this is Colorado and we don’t get scared that easily. We toughed it out, we held on to our plates of tacos, and we chugged our beers before they spilled. And it was a fantastic day.

 

This year’s Taco Fest is an all day event, so plan ahead. Gates open at noon with the first Lucha Libre match beginning at 1 pm, the last one beginning at 6 p.m., with live music between matches throughout the day. The party’s over at 8 p.m. so make sure you get there before then. You’re going to need time to sample all the tacos and sip all the beers.

.It would seem a simple thing: two breweries go head-to-head, pouring glasses of the sexy, the specialty, the sudsy, for interested – if pretend – beer connoisseurs. Two enter, one leaves victorious. Such was the scenario on April 7th, when The Post Brewing Company’s brewmaster, Nick Tedeschi, faced off with famed craft brewer, Dogfish Head..

Dogfish Head Brewery is based in Milton, Delaware, founded by Sam Calagione. It opened in 1995. All of this means absolutely nothing, except to say that the brewmaster at Dogfish Head is Bryan Selders, the same Bryan Selders who used to be the brewmaster at The Post and was, in fact, Nick Tedeschi’s mentor. The drama, the intrigue, the absolute madness…

Ok, enough of the dramatics. On an absolutely gorgeous night, inside the warm, wood walled, and cozy Post Brewery in Boulder, dozens gathered for a night of dueling brews paired with some truly amazing plates from The Post’s kitchen.

So let’s talk conclusions. All the beers were terrific,  and as testament to that, the battle ended in a tie. The Post Brewing Company won in what can only be described as an epic final chugging battle between Tedeschi and Selders.
