The holidays often inspire generosity. It’s part of the spirit of season…and all that junk. We feel like it’s a good time to do what you can to make the festivities wonderful for even the least fortunate. Here are a handful of ways to help those in need this season.

Sister Carmen

The Louisville and Lafayette chambers have once again challenged each other to a donations duel: The organization that collects the most food for Sister Carmen Community Center Food Bank wins. Though, the real winners are the low income locals who rely on Sister Carmen. Take donations to the chambers or drop them off at Sister Carmen (655 Aspen Ridge Dr., Lafayette…green door to the right of the loading docks), and let the staffer know which chamber you are donating on behalf of.

OUR Center

Volunteers are a vital resource for Longmont’s OUR Center, and some of its more than 1,000 volunteers have worked at the organization for more than 25 years. The OUR Center offers basic needs services including daily hot meals, a food pantry, clothing bank, homelessness prevention services, emergency services such as rent and utility vouchers, a homeless day center and more. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact, Maggie Shearon at 303.772.5529 ext. 235 or
maggie@ourcenter.org.

A Woman’s Work

More than 80 percent of the funds that support Boulder County’s A Woman’s Work come from individuals. That means the organization—which provides local women who are in need of financial support with child care, housing, transportation, medical needs and more—heavily relies on the generosity of donors. awomanswork.org

World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day is one day a year to remember those we’ve lost to the virus and to raise awareness about preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS. Boulder County AIDS Project will once again host a World AIDS Day concert with the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus Dec. 1.

Holiday Bike Giveaway

On Dec. 18, Community Cycles hosts its annual Kid’s Holiday Bike Giveaway, which gives donated bikes to local needy families. And there are multiple ways your can help: You can donate money to pay for repairs on the bikes, you can sponsor the helmets, you can volunteer to help make repairs to the bikes. Or, there’s still time now to donate a bike! CommunityCycles.org
