All Your Friends, HQ Denver, May 16

LCD Soundsystem, MGMT, and Crystal Castles are the post-punk revival of this house party. HQ Denver has the indie classics of the early 2010s that romanticized synths and high-energy to keep us dancing long into the night. DJ Eli dedicates a vinyl set to the nostalgia of these bands at All Your Friends (the title to perhaps one of the greatest songs to come out of this era) and all of its basement-floor classics.

Plays With Fire 2026, May 16 and 17

The Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company brings its “Plays With Fire” event back for 2026 with two staged readings of comedies. The first is a ten-minute comedy, “Bonnet” by John Patrick Shanley, followed by a 70-minute memoir comedy, “The Wheelchair on My Face” by Sonya Kelly. This event will be shown in Denver on Saturday and in Boulder on Thursday and Sunday. Attendees will also have the chance to hear about BETC’s upcoming season from two of its directors.

With features like a build-your-own-bouquet bar, wellness and self-care workshops, and chances to pamper yourself, this is a wonderful day out for friends looking to relax and build new self-care routines just in time for summer!
NewDad live from the Bluebird Theater with support from Freakslug, May 14

Irish Rock Band NewDad is bringing their newest album, “Altar,” to Denver on Thursday, May 14. The band’s second studio album explores new vocal genres, blending heavier alt-rock textures, sharper vocals, and more confrontational songwriting, while still staying true to their signature shoegaze sound. The show, taking place at Denver’s iconic Bluebird Theater, will be opened by British indie rock musician Xenya Genovese, known by her stage name, Freak Slug, whose hazy, off-kilter indie pop has earned a growing cult following for its mix of dreamy melodies and raw lyricism. The two acts guarantee a night of immersive twists on classic indie rock performances.

The Art of Requiem with the Boulder Chorale, Mar. 28th

Written in 1771, Michael Haydn’s Requiem in C Minor is one of the finest choral pieces of its time. The Boulder Chamber Orchestra and the Boulder Chorale come together to tackle this powerful work in a performance that explores the beauty of orchestra and choir. The music is profound, sublime, and will leave you stunned. The emotional depth of this piece is certainly unmatched, and the Boulder Chamber Orchestra does an excellent job of creating a soul-stirring experience.

Rite & Rach: Under the baton of Devin Patrick Hughes, Mar. 1st

On Sunday, March 1st, The Boulder Symphony unleashes an afternoon of symphonic masterworks with Rite & Rach, featuring The Rite of Spring and Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, Op. 30.

Under the baton of Devin Patrick Hughes, the orchestra performs Stravinsky’s groundbreaking, rhythmically explosive masterpiece alongside Rachmaninoff’s virtuosic Third Piano Concerto, performed by internationally recognized pianist Jiarui Cheng.

The program also includes Carter Pann’s Tiny Tattoo and Mikhail Glinka’s Overture to Ruslan and Lyudmila. This dynamic concert blends primal energy, sweeping lyricism, and technical brilliance — making it one of Boulder’s must-see classical music events of 2026.

Banned Books Club, Mar. 2

It is more important now than ever that we exercise our freedom of protest by reading banned books. Books and literature are the focal points of our culture and freedom. By reading banned books publicly and loudly, we protest the people who’ve banned them; those who actively seek to oppress and repress our knowledge and community. The Boulder Public Library at its Main Branch is hosting a reading of the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night by Mark Haddon. This murder mystery focuses on a young boy investigating the death of his neighbor’s dog. Throughout, he finds secrets his father had kept from him, a long-lost mother, and hope for a new day. This book is a cornerstone in neurodivergence, dealing with cheating and divorce, and solving the murder of a neighborhood pet.
