Comment on Letter to the Editor: Antisemitism Is The Big Tent For Fools by cdkapantais@gmail.com

The letter raises an important point. Criticism of Israeli government policies should not automatically be labeled antisemitic. Reasonable people can and do disagree about Israel while rejecting antisemitism in all its forms.

However, the letter loses credibility through selective reasoning, weak sourcing, and a pattern of dismissing the legitimacy of Jewish communal concern.

The claim that the Boulder attack could not have been antisemitic because the attacker said he was targeting “Zionists” rather than Jews does not hold up to scrutiny. Many Jews identify as Zionists, and Run for Their Lives is widely recognized as a Jewish community event. Treating the attacker’s framing as conclusive while setting aside how the targeted community understands the violence is not a serious argument.

The reliance on Wikipedia definitions for complex and contested subjects such as antisemitism, Zionism, Middle East history, and international law further weakens the argument. Wikipedia can provide background, but it is not an authoritative source for resolving long standing scholarly and political disputes. Even Wikipedia cautions against treating its entries as definitive in controversial topics.

The letter also engages in repeated and highly charged criticism of individuals such as Rachel Amaru, Wynn Howell, and District Attorney Michael Dougherty. It attributes distortion, manipulation, and other forms of bad faith to them without providing evidence that meets the weight of such serious accusations. This style of argument is not careful analysis. It is an attempt to discredit individuals rather than engage their actual reasoning, and it is a particularly troubling way to discuss people who are responding to a violent attack in their own community.

Taken together, the structure of the argument consistently works to narrow the definition of antisemitism in a way that excludes violence directed at Jewish communal spaces when political language is used to justify it. The effect is to shift attention away from the impact on the targeted community and toward discrediting those who identify the attack as antisemitic.

Boulder has long valued open debate and civic honesty. That requires space to criticize governments and policies freely, but it also requires taking seriously the reality of antisemitism when it appears in acts of violence against Jewish communal spaces. Dismissing that reality does not protect free speech. It erodes trust and undermines community safety.

I'm much more concerned with the potential for self dealing than I am fracking.

Hiring a company run by a former official for the company that would gain by any sale is extremely suspect, and I wonder how much it cost us to have some guy tell us everything is ok dokee. Need another opinion, an outside opinion.

Also I don't see why Erie has to give up it's mineral rights. I still get royalties from my mineral rights, why can't the town do the same.

Trust me......there are some very bad police within PD. I am a retired CU professional who was once roughed up by a very bad uncheck officer. Chief Redfearn is doing a better job of weeding out a bad culture of "arrest or shoot first" in dealing with the public. I went though the
BPD oversight process and it was a joke of the Blue Code of silence and protection of police even

How thoughtful of Chris Allred (a film major) to supply a press release.

You most certainly WILL be exposed to radioactive materials on Rocky Flats. About 0.8% of soil radioactivity (according to NIST measurements) comes from Pu isotopes [less than 6% of total alpha particle emitters], so the rest is all NATURAL. There's also plenty of outdoor radon (0.4 pCi/liter) and alpha-emitting decay products, about 10 million times higher than what Ketterer measured on a very windy day immediately downwind of the Pu windblown 'plume'. Don't forget cosmic rays, too.

If you're actually interested in the science about Rocky Flats, sign up for an upcoming Zoom presentation at https://forms.gle/WubCj7uHCW9qsyZL7

Hi Rick,

We always love engaging with community feedback. The original “billionaire” label used was an oversimplification. We used it because of the billions Dan Caruso has moved and managed through his companies and investments. We’ve adjusted our language to be more precise.
We've also engaged with your and other community feedback in more detail in our <a href="https://yellowscene.com/wordpress_core/wp-admin/post.php?post=88192&action=edit" target="_blank" rel="noopener ugc">Editor’s Note. </a> We agree with you transparency is very important, which is why the broader point this article is making still stands. Major financial player are aiming to shape electoral outcomes in Boulder, and we should all be thoughtful about that regardless of party affiliation.

We appreciate your engagement.

Why am I not surprise that you would lie to your readers. Dan Caruso is not even close to being a billionaire. In fact, he's not even worth a $100 million. For every billionaire representing the Republican party there are two representing the Democratic party. As journalist espousing to speak the truth, the only truth here is your lying. Spreading misinformation and disinformation. It is shameful and necessary for me to call you out. Please do better and start by admitting to not researching you statements in this article and that it is misinformation. Although you risk losing some readership (subscribers) will earn some respect from many of them.

The death of Jeannette Alatorre is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly encounters with law enforcement can escalate—especially for marginalized individuals. While the details are still emerging, the central question remains: When did lethal force become the default response, rather than de-escalation or non-lethal alternatives?

This case underscores the urgent need for:

Transparency – Full release of bodycam footage and independent investigations.

Policy reform – Stricter guidelines on use of force, particularly in mental health crises.

Community accountability – How can cities better train officers to handle vulnerable populations?

To those familiar with Colorado policing: Has recent legislation (like SB20-217) made tangible differences in use-of-force cases? And how can the public demand meaningful change beyond protests?

The ECMC's decision to terminate Phoenix Resources' right to operate in Colorado marks a significant step in holding oil and gas companies accountable for environmental violations. The reported failures—including improper waste disposal and inadequate spill prevention—highlight systemic issues in the industry that threaten local ecosystems and public health. While this enforcement action is commendable, it also underscores the need for stricter oversight and proactive measures to prevent such violations before they occur. Colorado’s push toward cleaner energy should align with robust regulatory frameworks ensuring responsible extraction practices. Hopefully, this case sets a precedent for stronger compliance across the sector.

I read your article on "affordable housing" and all I could think of was comparing it to Tokyo.

In Tokyo a couple earning min wage working full time can rent a median priced apartment in most parts of the city.

In the USA the most well to do quintile earns $155,000 at a minimum. I call that upper quintile the wealthy quintile. Erie's affordable housing is almost entirely affordable only to the wealthy.

In the US it's fairly common for an employer to call people to come in to work and to also tell people to go home arbitrarily. Most jobs that pay minimum wage don't have regular hours to plan a life around nor regular income. One week an employee might work 35 hours and another week 29 hours.

Employers in Erie.

Using the Tokyo scale a median apartment in Erie should cost $1,300 at 1/3 of income after subtracting SS tax, two people working full time min wage.

What about buying a house. Who is the largest employer in Erie? St Vrain Valley School district, Town of Erie, King Soopers, Lowes, Safeway. Should someone who works in King Soopers in Erie be able to afford to buy a house here?

Yes.

This article is right on point. As a former public defender and familiarity with the criminal justice system it costs tax payers a significant amount of money to jail homeless people. What makes more sense is to give people job skills or mental health treatment so that they can better themselves as opposed to jailing them. The jails are already filled with people who have been charged with crimes. There will never be enough space to then also jail those who are homeless. Think about it would you rather someone who is charged with sex assault be released to make space for someone who is charged with being homeless and camping in a place public place? I know my answer.

That changes nothing. Your "based on their qualifications and performance rather than on factors unrelated to their jobs" is standard conservative rhetoric opposing any kind of affirmative efforts to diversify. And the "diversity of thought" nonsense is standard GOP language objecting to supposed liberal bias in higher ed. You still can't say whether you support Juneteenth, Pride and similar events? If not, just say so. Your non-answer seems quite clear. To be clear, your conservative positions are legitimate, but why evade questions?

Hey Steve - I would be kind for you to post the truth or call me to verify what you are being told. Here is what I said in social: It is key for me to ensure that individuals are hired, promoted, and evaluated based on their qualifications and performance rather than on factors unrelated to their jobs. I oppose any measure that could infringe on individual rights. However, I do support efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable society by ensuring EVERYONE who wants a voice is heard so we have diversity of thought. I support events that show we are a welcoming community and have recently posted on how I encourage and welcome all perspectives. https://www.moore4erie.com/post/leading-from-the-center-to-better-erie

Not everyone realizes how hard it is to be homeless until they've been in the situation. My husband and I have been living in our car with her four dogs and cat since covid hit us. I had a job as a reception said Great clips when they started closing non-essential businesses down I lost my job which made me and my husband lose our apartment that we had for two and a half years now for once late. My husband is on SSI and even with him paying majority of his money they still wouldn't work with us. We have tried to get help numerous times since covert started and we lost her apartment and every single time we've been told they couldn't help us because of the following: we don't have kids, we're not 65 years old or older, we're not on drugs or alcohol, we're not coming out of jail or prison, and we're not veterans.
I was finally able to get a job in June 2020 at a day labor, and I became a flagger (which means as a flagger I would go to construction road cruise and use the stop and slow sign to direct traffic and make sure me and the public as well as the construction workers and vehicles were safe), and I end up getting sent on a job to Castle Rock and got hit by a car while working because the driver didn't want to listen to me when I said he couldn't go down the street that he wanted to because we were working on it.
I end up being in a coma for 6 months almost paralyzed from the waist down I went to using a wheelchair to walk rich now a cane, and I'm have trouble finding a job that will work with my medical limitations and so security has denied me twice now for disability due to the fact that my doctor told them that I can work with limitations.
So because of these setbacks that we have gone through me and my husband have to fly a card for a sign begging people for help or panhandling just for us to survive. I recently was able to get food stamps but that doesn't help my animals even though me and my husband will not eat unless they've eaten first if they don't have food we go without food.
In this last year due to all the stress of trying to just survived we've been put down, we've been assaulted, we've had phones stolen out of our car while we were in it sleeping, we were robbed, someone backed into a front of our car when we were sleeping in a park at night and drove off which caused damage to a radiator that now has a hole in it and can't go more than 10 minutes without overheating and we cannot afford a new radiator or to fix anything on the car from that damage.
They want to say things such as get off your lazy butts and get a job to me and then let alone to my husband who is disabled, as well as the fact that I've had a minor stroke and a minor heart attack all in one year not even a full year I should say, my husband has seizure sorter and has now developed diabetes due to the fact that it's become financially hard to eat properly and healthier, he's also developed cellulitis due to the fact that his legs are swollen because he has to sit in the front seat to sleep at night and isn't able to stretch out his legs let alone raise them like the doctor wants him to, and I have a heart condition called pulmonary hypertension and I'm supposed to be on 3 l of oxygen through a room air compressor and I am unable to do so do the fact that I have no way of plugging it into an outlet every night when I sleep.
Back in December January we were approved finally for housing voucher through Adams county but due to the fact that they found out that we were in a hotel more than a week during the winter when it was freezing cold with no heater in our car they took our voucher away and denied us as well as when we appealed to that fact; so due to that we have been in our car since my husband has pretty much lost any faith in the system on being able to get back on her feet and off the streets anytime I find any organizations that could possibly help us we end up getting shut down pretty much right away and they won't give us a reason why.
And due to the fact that there's not enough organizations with spots to fill spaces for the homeless that is one of the reasons why a lot of homeless people are still on the streets there's not enough space for everybody that's homeless, let alone the ones that are on disability and are on low income weightlessness that are sometimes 2 years or more long; including the veterans out there they have fought for a country and are homeless (there are 2,500 homeless veterans in Colorado let alone there is 25,000 homeless veterans in the United States of America), so it's kind of hard for people that don't do drugs or drink or cause problems for the public or have mental health issues or if they do have mental health issues know how to deal with them and take medications like they're supposed to and be able to find a place to stay either on the streets or off the streets.
Even those places that do have low income wait lists they only have certain amount of apartments that are low income instead of the whole apartment complex, me personally I think they should have more apartment complexes out there that are just for the homeless veterans for low income persons of interest that are unlike social security+retirement+SSDI+survivor benefits+pension plans, as well as more sober living places out there for the ones that need it, and more apartment complexes that are for low income families.
And when you have medical limitations on what you can and can't do because of work as well as possibly a background that might affect a potential job it's hard to get back on your feet if nobody will give you a chance not even as a 90-day probationary period.

Amazingly, people have the right to exist. People have the right to choice. And we forget, people like myself have been put in the situation they’re in not by choice.

Fix the broken systems such as the division of vocational rehabilitation, disability in Colorado, the suicide rate among the disabled.

The problem is, people like the mayor thank a one size fits all solution of just throwing people out, and force compliance is going to solve anything. Doesn’t mayor Coffman realize that eugenics is already been tried. Not everyone on the streets desires or deserves to be here, but I am homeless because of the failed systems of the state of Colorado.

I am not a drug addict, I am not an alcoholic, and I sleep in my car in one of the parks. I have multiple sclerosis. I’ve reached out for help, and as of yet I have made inroads into getting that help, but the process is slow. I don’t wanna be on the streets, I’ve been in those homeless shelters before, and nothing more than concentration camps compounding problems upon problems. I sought help there for my résumé, employment, and more and got a double barrel family friendly finger.

Well I agree that people congregating in camping together does not look good, we need a solution for the problem, and the cause peoples willingness to change. Not a forced compliance. Mayor Coffman needs a mental evaluation if he thinks that has ever work throughout history. If he wants to solve the problem, more opportunity for employment needs to be provisioned, Housing cost me to come down dramatically, and help and hope for those that
desire it Need to be provided.

There's nothing remotely amusing about this comment. Having lost my own family AT AUSCHWITZ, I can tell you that what you think is glib and edgy just reveals you to be a man of no honor, a man not fit to lead his own family, much less anyone else, a man who exemplifies the worst of American bigotry.
It's hard to say if the author is being intentionally deceitful or is simply numerically illiterate. Take these numbers for example: "In Boulder County, approximately 13.8% of the county’s residents are Hispanic yet they account for 44.3% of COVID-19 cases and 17.4% of deaths."

What is missing here is the total number of Covid-19 deaths in Boulder county, and as of today, July 30th, that is 74. So what are 13.8% and 17.4% of 74? 10.2 and 12.9. Since these are people, let's assume these percentages came from the numbers 10 and 13. That is, based on the population distribution, we would expect 10 people to have died of Covid-19 in Boulder, but actually, 13 people died. Now, hopefully the author understands that in a random sample, we wouldn't expect EXACTLY 10 Hispanic people to die. We expect it to be close to that number. Is this evidence of discrimination? I doubt anyone with any mathematical understanding would draw that conclusion.

My conclusion is that this article was accepted on the premise that the formula "X is discrimination" is pretty effective these days. No one even questions or examines the numbers. Surely there is some discrimination, but saying that everything is discrimination actually takes force away from the arguments in the cases where it does matter.

Finally, as for this statement: "There are a number of Latino-run businesses that work primarily with cash and they do not go through the officials banking structures," my first thought was, well why do businesses decide to work primarily with cash? I think we all know the answer to that.

This article is missing information about veterinary uses.
An RNA vaccine is a novel type of vaccine for providing acquired immunity through an RNA containing vector, such as lipid nanoparticles.[1]

Just like normal vaccines, RNA vaccines are intended to induce the production of antibodies which will bind to potential pathogens. The RNA sequence codes for antigens, proteins that are identical or resembling those of the pathogen. Upon the delivery of the vaccine into the body, this sequence is translated by the host cells to produce the encoded antigens, which then stimulate the body’s adaptive immune system to produce antibodies against the pathogen.

Currently, there are no RNA vaccines approved for human use. RNA vaccines offer multiple advantages over DNA vaccines in terms of production, administration, and safety,[2][3] and have been shown to be promising in clinical trials involving humans.[3] RNA vaccines are also thought to have the potential to be used for cancer in addition to infectious diseases.[4] Multiple companies including CureVac work in the development of RNA vaccines, and a number of RNA vaccines are under development to combat the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic.[5]

While a twitter report is probably not the most accurate, the photographer and Westword newspaper spoke to both and they confirmed they were, in fact, Medical personnel. The police were aiding them in their mission. However, we are well aware, the first line of defense against truth is for people to claim "Fake News". It is our experience the ones screaming it the loudest are typically the ones reporting the most misinformation per the medical and scientific fields.

You will just have to be sad when he's acquitted. Personally I cannot wait until election night when he not just wins the electoral college but the popular. I even see him picking Colorado up and possibly New Mexico. I cannot wait until the "nooo, nooo, nooo" lady makes her return. Yes this will even be more entertaining than 2016.

President Trump has saved our country from the left wing filth and deep state scum. We now have the greatest economy ever, strongest military ever and we have freed the energy industry to extract every drop of oil and every vapor of natural gas to give us total energy independence. He has also give us security from the drug cartels importing their product with drug mules (make no mistake everyone in a GEO facility worked for the cartels).

No this will be fun!!!
