Sacred Voices is a non-profit organization that provides poetry and spoken word workshops to underserved BIPOC youth in the Denver Metro area.
Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) is a non-collecting institution that annually presents 14+ exhibitions at its flagship in downtown Boulder and partner location sand engaged 180+ artists. In 2025, BMoCA engaged over 240,000 people through its exhibitions and 500+ programs that foster the exploration of art, dialogue about current issues, and art-making among all ages. Celebrating its 54th anniversary in 2026, BMoCA is at an exciting time in its history. Over the past decade, the museum has reached new heights thanks to record-breaking attendance numbers, dramatic programmatic growth, and the critical support of its community. In 2022, the museum launched a capital campaign to support a new flagship facility, tentatively scheduled to break ground in 2027 and open in 2030.
Our History
Sacred Voices, formerly known as "Cafe Cultura," was founded in 2004. After the passing of respected elder and veteran poet Abelardo "Lalo" Delgado, the organization accepted the responsibility to continue using Indigenous oral and written traditions to provide opportunities for creative expression often not offered elsewhere. For over 14 years, our organization has primarily served Indigenous youth and their families through youth poetry workshops and open mic events. With a renewed focus on serving the diverse communities we work with, our organization has transformed in the past three years, including the termination of our former executive director. Under the guidance of a new Board of Directors, our mission was reevaluated and updated to better reflect the multiracial and multicultural populations we serve.
Our commitment to serving Indigenous youth remains strong with Co-Executive Directors Astin Lopez and Briannah Hill at the helm, serving as both Executive Directors and the Director of Media and Programming. At the same time, we strive to make our offerings even more inclusive and representative of the communities we serve. In 2022, our organization is proud to be recognized from the Mayor’s Award Office as an award-winning organization with a reputation for delivering high-quality, culturally-responsive programs that positively impact the lives of the communities and youth we serve.
