MLK Jr Highway

Event Details

Greetings All!!

In January 2024, Junie Joseph-Colorado State Representative for District 10-Boulder, teamed with the NAACP Boulder County Branch to pass a HJR24-1003, which essentially allowed for the renaming of US Hwy 36 to be marked and referred to as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Highway through Boulder, CO.

The name designation successfully passed the legislation 69-0 in both Colorado State Chambers. The new designated signs were installed July 31st, at Mile Markers 32 and 37. Renaming a U.S. highway after Dr. King not only honors his contributions to civil rights but also serves as a reminder of the ongoing work needed to advance equality and justice.

To honor and celebrate this history making event, we are planning a celebration that welcomes and invites our community to a festive evening of entertainment and cultural highlights. Program highlights will include former State Legislator, Mrs. Wilma Webb as guest speaker along with an outstanding cast of legislators, University of Colorado division heads/leaders and community leaders.

We deeply appreciate your support and look forward to celebrating this important historic milestone for our Boulder County community with you. Please come.
