About This Event

MycoMorphosis: Dancing with Fungi presents a Sunday matinee performance on January 25, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Dairy Arts Center. Director Iván-Daniel Espinosa’s groundbreaking multimedia show fuses Japanese Butoh dance with living mushroom colonies that generate real-time soundscapes through bio-sensor technology. Dancers Stefan Bach, Corin Wiggins, Kenji Hirose, and Arlo Sage King perform in a sculptural maze featuring fruiting mushrooms as mycelium’s electrical activity is converted into electroacoustic music by composer Christopher Bryant Arnett. This interspecies performance creates a multi-sensory experience where human and fungal worlds merge through slow, attentive movement. Perfect Sunday afternoon immersion in avant-garde dance and mycological art. Espinosa, CU Boulder PhD candidate studying performance and mycology, brings his acclaimed work to Boulder.

Dairy Arts Center

Dairy Arts Center was founded in 1992 to provide cooperative workspaces for local artists and venues for live performance in Boulder County. Originally owned by the Watts-Hardy Dairy, the building’s transformation from a former milk-processing facility to a thriving multi-disciplinary arts hub for Boulder and beyond is a nationally recognized example of constructive urban development and renewal. The Dairy’s founders envisioned a community arts center where artists of all genres would create and inspire each other and the greater community.
