It gets dark around 8pm, so could we perhaps start at 7pm?
Light pollution was once only an issue in big cities, but it is growing quickly and now affects almost half of the USA, including small towns like Lyons.
Nighttime lighting affects wildlife and human health, wastes energy and blocks our view of the universe. Happily, it can be diminished by careful lighting use and design. In this talk, we’ll find out how we can diminish light pollution in our neighborhoods without compromising safety and learn about efforts to make Lyons a certified dark-sky friendly community.
After the talk, weather permitting, we’ll also have some telescopes in the back yard to inspire you!
