Boulder SURJ is proud to present the second event of our Justice Film Series! Join us to view the vital film FROM HERE, followed by a thought-provoking community conversation led by Soledad Diaz of Violence Free Colorado. Doors will open at 6PM, and we will be meeting in the Canyon Theater in the Boulder Public Library. The programming will begin at 6:15 sharp, so plan on arriving early to allow time for parking and finding snacks & seating before the movie starts.

From the epicenter of today’s global migration debates, FROM HERE (formerly With Wings and Roots*) follows four young people who represent the future of global citizenry. Filmed over the better part of a decade in two of the world’s largest immigration countries–the U.S. and Germany–FROM HERE captures an international generation’s fight for belonging in an era of rising nationalism.

Set in Berlin and New York, FROM HERE interweaves the stories of Tania, Miman, Sonny and Akim – artists and activists raised in the Global North to parents from the Global South. The film accompanies them as they move from their 20’s into their 30’s, facing major turning points: fighting for citizenship, creating a family, surviving violence, and finding creative expression. Beautifully shot over the course of ten years, the film captures their struggle to define belonging for themselves in societies increasingly hostile to their existence.

After witnessing the powerful stories and message of this film, you’ll have the special opportunity to participate in a thought-provoking community discussion facilitated by Soledad Diaz. This group conversation will dive deep into the emotions brought up by watching the film in a safe, respectful environment for all.

This event is FREE, though donations are welcome so that we can contiue our programming into 2025 and keep paying our filmmakers and facillitators while maintaining a zero cost experience and remain open to all who would like to come! If you are able, please donate through our 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, Longmont Community Foundation.

If you can’t make this event, our series will continue on November 3rd at the Boulder Public Library – more info to come.
