Italian virtuoso Alessio Bax, first prize winner of both the Leeds and Hamamatsu International Piano Competitions, joins the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra for Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 on Sunday, March 30, at 4 PM at Macky Auditorium. Music Director Michael Butterman leads this compelling program, which also features Stravinsky’s Petrushka (1947) and opens with Anna Clyne’s PIVOT.
A Steinway Artist and professor at the New England Conservatory of Music, Bax has performed with the world’s leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, and Royal Philharmonic. His artistry was memorably showcased in a 2016 NPR Tiny Desk Concert, and his recording of Bach transcriptions was featured in the Oscar-winning film “Call Me by Your Name.”
Before the main performance, guests can enjoy a pre-concert performance by the Center for Musical Arts and interact with tablers from Colorado Music Festival, Garden to Table, Colorado Conservatory of Dance, and Wild Bear Nature Center in the gallery.
