Trident Booksellers and Cafe are celebrating the release of of Relinquished: The Politics of Adoption and the Privilege of American Motherhood by sociologist and author Gretchen Sisson and Liberating Abortion: Claiming Our History, Sharing Our Stories, and Building the Reproductive Future We Deserve by activist, abortion storyteller, and podcast host Renee Bracey Sherman. They will be joined in conversation by Imani Gandy and Jessica Pieklo, co-hosts of the award-winning podcast Boom! Lawyered.

Gretchen, Renee, Imani, and Jessica will lead a powerful and provocative conversation on the history of adoption in the United States, from its history in slavery and Native American boarding schools to modern day. They will explore Gretchen’s decades-long research on American mothers who relinquished their children for domestic adoption and discuss the role adoption plays in the abortion debate. They will also discuss the history of the abortion movement, centering the activism and experiences of people of color and exploring why abortion is essential to the health of our communities. The conversation will be followed by audience Q&A and book signing.
