Bassist/composer Marcos Varela is a Creative Capital Award winning musician who has made a name for himself working in the bands of some of Jazz and music industry’s brightest lights including Ingrid Jensen, Billy Hart, Eddie Henderson, Antoine Roney, Nasheet Waits, Charli Persip big band, Vincent Gardner’s big Band and the Mingus Big Band.The legendary Ron Carter writes that Varela’s “Tone, Choice of Notes and Compositions will place his playing and name on the list of bassists to be heard.”Mr.Carter called him “ a valuable asset to any musical organization” and “ among the top bass players in the industry” and “ a fine example of the talent that is essential to the scene” “…with a complete understanding of the history and details of the jazz art form.”Marcos” composition credits include the score for Domenica Scorsese’s film “Roots in Water” and his debut album “ San Ygnacio” on Origin Records, named by Jazziz magazine as one of the top releases of 2016.
