Once Upon a Mattress! This is a rollicking musical comedy that puts a hilarious twist on the classic fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea.” In a medieval kingdom ruled by the domineering Queen Aggravain and the mild-mannered King Sextimus (who’s been cursed to silence), no one is allowed to marry until Prince Dauntless finds a bride. But the Queen has rigged impossible tests for every princess who applies, ensuring her son stays single.

That is, until the unconventional Princess Winnifred the Woebegone arrives, having swum the castle moat to seek the Prince’s hand. With her infectious energy and unprincess-like charm, Winnifred shakes up the court. To sabotage her, the Queen devises the ultimate sensitivity test: a tiny pea placed under twenty mattresses. Will Winnifred prove her royal worth and live happily ever after?

With music by Mary Rodgers (daughter of legendary composer Richard Rodgers), lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer, this Broadway hit features toe-tapping tunes like “Shy,” “Happily Ever After,” and “The Swamps of Home.” Originally starring Carol Burnett in her breakout role on Broadway in 1959, it’s a family-friendly farce filled with witty humor, romance, and royal shenanigans that’s perfect for all ages!
