Dear Opera Lovers,
Join us this February at the Dairy Arts Center for an exciting and dramatic double bill of Puccini’s masterpieces!
Il Tabarro is a dark, one-act opera that unfolds on a barge in Paris, telling a tale of love, betrayal, and murder among the working class. And Gianni Schicchi is a comedy, centered on a clever and mischievous man who deceives a greedy family to secure a fortune for his daughter’s marriage. Filled with humor and sharp satire, it features the beloved aria “O mio babbino caro” and showcases Puccini’s wit and charm.
Stage Director Gene Roberts explores the universal themes of love, greed, and betrayal in both operas. Watch his 1-minute video here.
As Conductor Brandon Matthews says:
“Even though Il Tabarro and Gianni Schicchi premiered in 1918, their themes are surprisingly relevant to modern audiences. Think about the popularity of current-day movies and television shows featuring antiheroes or morally ambiguous characters—Puccini’s operas explore similar complexities.”
This is a rare opportunity to experience Il Tabarro live in Colorado. Paired with Gianni Schicchi and performed by our stellar cast, this is an evening of opera you won’t want to miss.
