Stripped for Parts Screening

Event Details

Join us for a screening of Stripped for Parts, followed by a panel discussion with local journalists and newsroom leaders examining the forces reshaping local media—and what’s at stake right now.

The film chronicles how Alden Global Capital’s hedge-fund takeover of newspapers nationwide has led to newsroom closures, mass layoffs, and the erosion of public-service journalism. What begins as one journalist’s investigation becomes a national confrontation between reporters and “vulture capitalist” ownership—backed by the NewsGuild union and driven by a fight to preserve journalism as a public good.

After the screening, our panel will explore:

– How hedge-fund ownership and media consolidation affect newsroom independence

– What the proposed TEGNA deal signals for local television, print, and digital news in our region

– The real-world impacts on journalists, audiences, and democratic accountability

– What sustainable, community-centered models of local journalism could look like moving forward

This evening event is ideal for journalists, students, civic leaders, media professionals, and engaged community members interested in a deeper dive into media ownership, power, and public trust.

Popcorn, cookies, and beverages provided.

Rocky Mountain Public Media

Rocky Mountain Public Media (RMPM) is Colorado’s largest membership organization, with supporters in every county, making it a vital civic and cultural asset for generations of Coloradans. In a time of division, media mistrust, and rapid change, RMPM plays a crucial role as a trusted, inclusive, and community-driven media hub. We bring people together to share ideas, learn from one another, and feel connected to something bigger than ourselves. Through Rocky Mountain PBS (RMPBS), KUVO JAZZ, and THE DROP 104.7, RMPM reflects the full diversity of our state—offering educational resources for kids and families, trusted news and information for communities large and small, a stage for local artists, and stories that build bridges to empathy and understanding. Whether through public television, community radio, or digital content, RMPM makes space for everyone to be seen, heard, and valued. Together with you and the support of our members, we strengthen our communities and our democracy by offering information we can trust. We support learning across a lifetime. We preserve and uplift Colorado’s history and cultural heritage. And we help newcomers and long-time residents alike feel a deeper sense of connection and belonging. At our heart, RMPM is not just media—with you, we are something bigger. We can connect communities, co-create a better vision of the future, and ensure we all take collective care. That’s why we're not just important to you—we are essential to Colorado.
