Despite attempts at censorship that included prosecutions for obscenity and one of the first-ever X ratings, VIXEN became one of the year’s top-grossing movies, forever transformed independent film and remains the creative template for Meyer’s unapologetic vision of American cinema. Following Russ Meyer’s “serious” features THE SEVEN MINUTES and BLACK SNAKE (which came directly after BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS), this return to form from Russ in ‘75 was written, photographed, edited, produced and directed all by the maestro. It remains his most over-the-top and savagely entertaining epic of all. When a hot-blooded wife (Shari Eubank) and a psychotic cop (Charles Napier, in a startling performance) come together, it will ignite a cross-country odyssey of violence, vengeance and relentless coitus. Meyer regulars John Lazar, Uschi Digard and Haji co-star in this “super-sexy live-action Road Runner cartoon” (Empire Magazine). Restoration by Severin Films.
