The Denver Brass: Pulse of America
The Denver Brass, one of the finest large brass ensembles in the world, presents the final show of their 2025-2026 season, Pulse of America, on May 17 at 2:30 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church. Timed for Memorial Day and in advance of America’s 250th anniversary, the show is a powerful, locally rooted tribute and a stirring season finale honoring 250 years of American resilience, unity, and innovation through bold, cinematic brass music.
“Our last show of the season is always bittersweet, and there is no better way to close than with a tribute in time for Memorial Day and our country’s 250th anniversary,” said Kathy Brantigan, artistic director and founder of The Denver Brass. “Pulse of America reflects both our nation’s history and the spirit of the community that has supported us for decades—it’s a celebration of where we’ve been, who we are, and the shared experiences that bring us together through music.”
The program will feature Sketches of Courage, a symphonic poem created by Denver-based composer Sean Shaffer Hennessy. The work is inspired by the WWII sketchbook filled with drawings by his grandfather, Francis Xavier Hennessy II.
Pulse of America is a celebration of local artistry at a nationally significant moment. As communities across the country begin commemorating America’s Semiquincentennial, The Denver Brass offers a distinctly Colorado perspective: world-class musicians performing in an intimate setting, creating a shared experience that resonates across generations.
The Denver Brass shows combine world-class performance with engaging insights from the stage. Spoken commentary and brief pauses are a natural part of each program, allowing musicians to care for their embouchure and deliver the highest level of artistry—while inviting audiences deeper into the music. This show also includes dance elements which make it one-of-a-kind.
