About This Event

BMoCA presents artist Stacey Steers’ experimental animation The Stars Watch From Long Ago at Dairy Arts Center’s Boedecker Theater on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 6:00 PM. This handmade animation comprises thousands of intricate paper collages featuring archival images from silent film stars Lillian Gish, Janet Gaynor, and Ana Torrent. The dreamlike 22-minute film opens with a tiny farmhouse spinning through the cosmos, carrying Gish alone in the vastness—unfolding as a surreal meditation on wonder, loss, connection, and longing. Colorado wildfires emerge as an existential threat and a key element. Steers seamlessly lifts images from silent cinema and recasts them within this contemplative, uncanny epic exploring personal relationships, science fiction, the natural world, and cinematic language. Collaboration with editor John Romano and sound designer Udit Duseja. Post-screening discussion with the artist. $15 ($12 BMoCA members). Limited seating—arrive 15 minutes early.
