A Glass of Water Overflowing with Perspective

Check Out Old Town Lafayette
Old Town Lafayette certainly lives up to the old cliché there’s something for everyone. We avoided the pawnshop and focused on the fun stuff.

The Insiders Look
You’ve always wanted an inside perspective on the life of an artist. The Longmont Council for the Arts has been answering that call for eight years with its Longmont Studio Tour. The studio tour opens the workspaces of area artists, affording access to the intimate worlds of local artists. The opening reception is at The Great Frame Up on Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. The tours run Sept. 22-23. Call 303.485.9822.
If You Love Irish…
Who doesn’t love the Irish, with their ruddy-cheeked sense of humor, penchant for ebullient laughter and love of a good song? How about the Scots, a culture that invented Scotch and golf? On Sept. 6-9, take time to celebrate both at the Longs Peak Scottish Irish Highland Fest at Stanley Park in Estes Park. Bring your kilts, pipes and family! Call 800.903.7837.
Happy To Have Him
Widely considered one of the fathers of Afro-Cuban jazz, Arturo Sandoval’s blistering trumpet technique is highly influenced by Dizzy Gillespie. Occasionally touring through Europe and the States, Sandoval felt stymied by the oppressive Castro regime and was finally able to defect to the U.S. in 1990. Since then he’s released a slew of albums on several labels. Catch him live at Macky Auditorium in Boulder on Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $12-$52. Call 303.492.8008.
