Christian McBride at Boulder Theater

With eight Grammy awards in his display case, Christian McBride has firmly cemented himself on the Mount Rushmore of jazz bassists, thanks to his peerless discography and his tireless work as Artistic Director of the historic Newport Jazz Festival, New Jersey Performing Arts center (NJPAC), the TD James Moody Jazz Festival, and the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, as well as Jazz Aspen Snowmass Summer Sessions. Still touring on his 2018 outing — Christian McBride’s New Jawn, a tight, soulful, funky 9-track exploration of contemporary jazz with a decidedly Philly edge — the maestro breezes through the Boulder Theater on Feb. 26. Tickets start at $29.50, check out www.BoulderTheater.com for more information.

Ms. Holmes and Ms. Watson by Kate Hamill is a fast-paced, farcical reboot of the famous detective and her crime-solving partner. With tons of humor thrown in, the pair of detectives take the audience through a fascinating journey filled with plenty of villains, scandals and more. This one is playing through Feb. 25 at the Grace Gamm Theatre in the Dairy Center for the Arts. Tickets range from $22.50 to $50 and are available at thedairy.org or by calling 303.351.2382.

Joysome at Dairy Center for the Arts

Denver’s Month of Photography is a biennial festival celebrating photography with exhibits and events throughout the Denver/Boulder region taking place in March of 2023. As part of this festival, the Dairy Center for the Arts is offering Joysome – a packed exhibition featuring 50 images culled from hundreds of submissions. The topic of the call for photography was the theme of joy – and Joysome showcases the selected images printed on flags and exhibited throughout the Dairy Arts Center and East Window Art Gallery in Boulder. Visit thedairy.org for more information.

Fiddler on the Roof at Buell Theatre

One of the most beloved musicals of all time visits Denver in a new national touring production of Fiddler on the Roof. The original Broadway production won 10 Tony Awards, including one for being the longest-running Broadway musical. Now, whether you’re a long-time fan, or if you’ve never had the chance to catch this one – Denver Center Attractions has your chance from March 14 through 19 at the Buell Theatre. Tevya’s journey as he deals with the trials and tribulations of raising his daughters in a changing world features such memorable songs as “Tradition,” “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Sunrise, Sunset” among so many others. $35 to $115 at denvercenter.org or 303.893.4100.

Gary Gulman at Dairy Center for the Arts

After more than 25 years honing his craft, it’s no wonder Gary Gulman has become a nearly household name among standup comedy fans. He was a finalist on the second and third seasons of Last Comic Standing, has made a complete circuit of all the late night talk shows, and has a wildly acclaimed HBO special called The Great Depresh that was released in 2019 — and dives deeply into his own battles with depression, anxiety and treatment. He’s eminently relatable and lights-out funny. Catch him at one of two shows at the Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder on March 4 at 7 and 9 pm. Tickets start at $35, visit TheDairy.org for more information.

Art + Science at Arvada Center

The art of science is explored through visual mediums in the Arvada Center’s current exhibition titled Art + Science. Fourteen contemporary artists use data, research, and scientific concepts to inform and create their works – portraying both the scientific discovery and the artist’s understanding and experiences. From powerful sculpture to thought-provoking photography and painting, there are many opportunities for discussion and appreciation in this exhibition running through March 26. Admission is free, visit www.arvadacenter.org for more information.
