What: Ballot Issue Forum Covering Erie’s Proposed Home Rule Charter
When: Monday, October 2, 2023, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Where: Erie Community Library, 400 Powers Street
Who:
• Members and ballot issue volunteers from the League of Women Voters Boulder
County
• Erie Charter Commission Members Ashraf Shaikh and Bob Braudes
• Gabi Rae, Town of Erie, Director of Communications; Community Engagement
Why: During the upcoming November 2023 election, Erie voters will decide yes/for or no/against the proposed home rule charter developed by the Erie Charter Commission. Voters will also decide on an associated ballot question concerning pay increases for elected officials. Home rule is a form of government based on a locally written charter rather than governance prescribed by state laws. The League of Women Voters of Boulder County is holding this ballot issues forum so that Erie voters will have an opportunity to learn about the proposed changes to their town’s structure and governance and what aspects of municipal function and powers will stay the same or be maintained. The forum is also an opportunity for voters to learn more about the home rule process and the possible outcomes if voters reject the proposed governing document.
