Pride month may be over, but that is no reason to stop celebrating! Especially if you are one of the many members of the community who chose not to celebrate Pride in public. Whether you’re recovering from substance abuse, not yet out to the world, boycotting the commercialism and corporate “rainbow-washing,” or just don’t like parades, here are some ideas for an alterative way to celebrate you over the rest of the summer.

  1. Spruce up your playlists with the latest from queer and trans artists
  2. Host a dance party, trivia night, or TV or movie night with LGBTQIA+-themed mocktails
  3. Go thrifting to upgrade your queer wardrobe
  4. Attend a smaller community event like the Denver D.Y.Q.E. March
  5. Round up your friends and allies for karaoke. The Pitch in Louisville has private rooms and is ADA accessible
  6. Read LGBTQIA+ authors such as Boulder-based Colorado Poet Laureate Andrea Gibson
  7. Go for a hike and picnic (or some queer glamping) at Rainbow Lakes
  8. With the money you save by not going clubbing, make a donation to Rocky Mountain Equality (formerly Out Boulder County)
  9. Honor your queer and trans ancestors, from friends and loved ones to leaders in queer liberation, by learning more about LGBTQIA+ history
