The Town of Erie received notice from Civitas Resources on Oct. 14 regarding the discovery of a spill at the Pratt 4-2-29 and Pratt 22-29 wellheads during site decommissioning and abandonment operations.

The Pratt pad is located within Erie limits south of WCR 6 and east of the Vista Pointe neighborhood near the closed Denver Regional South Landfill. The release, which occurred at some time during the well’s operation, is not on-going and does not appear to have impacted groundwater resources. Impacted soil will be excavated and hauled for disposal. Confirmation soil samples will be collected and submitted in compliance with ECMC regulations prior to final site reclamation.

This follows a release reported in April where an above ground storage tank was found to have released crude oil onto the ground. The previous spill has been remediated and is not related to this release near the wellheads.
