Come Celebrate America in the 20th Century with Pre-Chautauqua Events

GREELEY, Colo. — As Centennial Village Museum celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, the Greeley Historic Preservation Commission invites the public to a free History Hour event and a walking tour in July, both at the museum, located at 1475 A Street in Greeley.

On Thursday, July 23 at noon, Young Chautaquans will perform at Centennial Village Museum in the Weld Centennial Church for the monthly History Hour series. Young Chautauquans research a person from the past, write and memorize a first-person monologue about their lives, present it and answer questions as that person. Come watch and support Greeley’s youth!

Then, on July 27, City Historic Preservation Planner Betsy Kellums and City of Greeley Museums’ staff will co-lead a walking tour of Centennial Village in honor of the 50th anniversary of the village, which was created in 1976 in honor of the 100th anniversary of Colorado becoming a state. The tour will meet at the entrance to the museum at 5:30 p.m. This is a pre-High Plains Chautauqua walking tour. Wear walking shoes, bring a water bottle and join us!

These events are free and open to the public and no reservations are required.

High Plains Chautauqua

This signature event is held annually in Greeley. Audiences from all over Colorado and beyond enjoy professional performances by nationally acclaimed Chautauqua scholars who bring history to life. This year’s event will be held August 3 through 7 at Aims Community College Welcome Center. The theme is America’s 250th anniversary. Learn more at http://www.highplainschautauqua.org/.
