As Protests Spread Nationwide, Boulder Turns Out Again on Saturday

For two days in a row, well over 1,000 people gathered in Boulder to protest ICE and federal immigration enforcement. On Saturday, the demonstration took place downtown at Broadway and Walnut, drawing a large crowd despite cooler weather (but not as cold as Minnesota). The action was organized by Forever Indivisible Boulder with organizing support from Boulder DSA and included participants of all ages.

The downtown protest followed an earlier bike rally that began at North Boulder Park and rode through town to join demonstrators. Organizers and participants cited ongoing concerns about federal immigration enforcement, including the recent fatal shootings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis that have sparked protests nationwide, as well as broader opposition to ICE and Trump administration immigration policies.

Ahead of the protest, Boulder District Attorney Michael Dougherty issued a “Know Your Rights” notice, advising residents on constitutional protections when interacting with ICE agents and documenting their activity. Dougherty, who is currently campaigning for Colorado Attorney General, has been publicly raising concerns about the use of force by federal immigration authorities and potential infringements on constitutional rights.
