Resisting Erasure: Black Presence in White Spaces

Colorado Leaders Gather at Frasier Meadows to Reaffirm Commitments to Civil and Economic Justice and Celebrate Black History Month

Boulder, CO — As Black History Month comes to a close, Colorado lawmakers and community leaders will gather for an evening honoring Black culture, resilience, and resistance in the face of systemic erasure. The event will explore how Black identity has endured despite historic and ongoing violations of civil liberties.

The conversation will be moderated by educator and newspaper columnist Jim Mittelman and will feature:

  • Terrance Carroll, Former Speaker of the House of Representatives
  • Representative Junie Joseph, Colorado House District 10
  • Pedro Senhorinha Silva, Spiritual Leader
  • Wanda James, Regent, University of Colorado

Music and cultural performances will be provided by Nana Boakye, with closing spiritual songs led by Councilmember Taishya Adams.

Representative Junie Joseph, one of the event’s hosts, emphasized the importance of creating spaces that affirm Black history, leadership, and presence within institutions where they have often been marginalized.

The event will take place at 7:00 PM on February 27, 2026, at Frasier Meadows in Boulder, Colorado.
