The City owns or has an interest in approximately 2,000 acres of open lands that serve a wide variety of values. These lands provide recreational opportunities for residents and visitors, support diverse wildlife and plant communities, and create visual buffers between Louisville and neighboring municipalities. The City's trail system links Open Spaces to residential neighborhoods and commercial areas for ready access to outdoor recreation opportunities. Another important goal of the Open Space Division is to preserve Louisville's agricultural backdrop by maintaining private farming in more rural areas.
