Steak at 740 Front is part of downtown Louisville’s rhythm. Housed in a restored 1904 saloon, it’s where locals go when they want a proper steak, a stiff drink, and a room that still feels rooted in the town’s past. Reliable, unfussy, and exactly what the night calls for.

As one of Boulder’s oldest restaurants and a repeat winner that can’t be toppled, Boulder Cork is an essential must-visit. Since 1969, the Cork has been serving a rotating menu that ranges from prime rib to their famous mud pie combined with a showcase of local art on brick walls that create an unforgettable experience.

A longtime Best of the West favorite, Sakura Japanese Restaurant has earned its reputation through consistency and craft. Rather than retire, the original owners passed the restaurant to their nephew, trained for years under master sushi chef Kho. From traditional sushi to tatami-style seating where shoes come off, Sakura remains as authentically Japanese as it gets.

Busaba’s original Louisville location set the standard long before expansion. Bright curries, craveable noodles, and heat levels that actually mean something have built a fiercely loyal following. Scratch-made, vibrant, and unapologetically bold, it’s Thai food locals return to again and again, and a repeat Best Thai favorite since opening.

This modest, unexpected, standalone restaurant on 28th is not just Vietnamese, but Thuy cuisine. Drawing locals and regulars alike, this place reveals a history lesson in its menu that combines passion with authenticity. This is one of our favorite stops, and every new staff member gets taken to Marco’s Hot Dogs & Tacos. When the craving hits for Mexican hot dogs wrapped in bacon and topped with beans, mayonnaise, and whatever other goodies you want, we’ll drive across town. It’s a brick taco stand with outdoor seating, and once you’ve had the dogs, the long line makes perfect sense.

Mustard’s Last Stand is the last hot dog you’ll ever want. This place has been voted the best hot dogs in Denver and is in the Vienna Beef Hall of Fame because of their traditional Chicago-style dog that’s been bringing people to the back for over 45 years. Don’t forget the mustard on the classic!

Tacos Ay Ay Ay lives up to the drama in its name. Overflowing fillings, bold flavors, and a dash of Lafayette magic make every bite a tiny fiesta locals never want to end.

From New Mexico to CU Boulder to winning season five of Top Chef, Rosenberg opened his own restaurant and, recently, his own butcher shop in order to perfect cured meats.

The staff’s welcome into this lamp-lit neighborhood nook is just as warm as the lighting feels. They offer your usuals along with unique inventions like “Strawberry Feels Forever.” The Beatle’s-themed cocktail features strawberry boba – the FIRST cocktail with boba we’ve seen – which only adds to the delight of this Boulder staple.

Though it may have started with just Eric Wallace and a homebrew kit in Longmont, Left Hand Brewery has since swept the nation with their iconic nitros. While Left Hand is leaving their handprint across the country, they’re committed to shrinking their footprint, by investing in the most up-to-date energy and water conservation methods.

In their list of 2025’s successes, along with being named World Beer Cup Gold Medalist, were the 5,000+ dogs they petted that year. Turns out, these pet enthusiasts are also pretty big nerds for the brewing process, offering tours to teach the public about the science of yeast and to show off their barrel-aging and burgeoning pilot programs.

In a world of sweet breakfasts, Lucile’s dares to be savory. As a hyper-local, independent publication, we often operate on fumes. Journalism isn’t where the big dollars are, which is why sustaining support from the community is critical. Holly, Alaska! at Dairy Center

This new musical is a heartwarming tale of a local group of community theater players who have been creating an annual holiday pageant for more than 100 years in the tiny town of Holly, Alaska. When the town council decides the show will not go on, the actors pull out all the stops to ensure this tradition will continue. It’s a music-filled story full of love, connection and “holiday revelry in the goofiest kind.” Was playing at the Dairy Center for the Arts through December 31.

Festo Festo: Planina, Gora Gora Orkestar & Upsherin at Mercury Cafe

Part of an ongoing monthly series at the Mercury Cafe, Festo Festo celebrates the traditional Jewish sounds of raucous Klezmer and Balkan music with local groups Upsherin and Gora Gora Orkestar. This New Year’s Eve, they stepped it up another notch, adding Panina to the mix. Klezmer is based on the Hebrew words, k’lei zemer, which means “a vessel for sound.” And you couldn’t find a more fun, dance-friendly vessel in which to ring in the new year than the Mercury Cafe Ballroom in Denver on Dec. 31.

In My Body exhibit at Dairy Center

For fans of visual arts, The Dairy Center is a wonderful place to visit with a widely varying calendar filled with artists of all kinds. Right now you can catch In My Body, which combines two bodies of artwork for local artist Courtney Griffin. This series of paintings highlights several seasons of change for the artist, as she was recovering from major surgery and in the first weeks of her first pregnancy. As her body began to change so, too, did her art. This exhibit seeks to answer the question, “What ways can we celebrate the new shapes our bodies make?” Visit TheDairy.org for more information.

I Hate Hamlet at Longmont Theatre Company

What happens when an actor has to perform in a play he is terrified to do? And what happens when that play is one of the most legendary plays of all time? This is explored in the hilarious comedy I Hate Hamlet opening Jan. 26 at Longmont Theatre Company. I Hate Hamlet is the story of a television actor, Andrew Rally, who is unsure about starting rehearsals for the titular show. MediaLive: Technology as Healing at BMOCA

Man’s connection to technology is explored in this new exhibit titled MediaLive: Technology as Healing, now open at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. The exhibit features the work of eight different artists who use a variety of mediums to explore the complex global challenges of our time through technology. Lewis Black at Boulder Theater

Few comedians in the world can deliver an absolutely thundering rant on nearly any topic with as much fury and hilarity as longtime maestro Lewis Black, and it appears this may be one of your very last chances to see it all happen in person. The two-time Grammy Award winner for comedic albums The Carnegie Hall Performance (Comedy Central Records, 2007) and  Stark Raving Black (Comedy Central Records, 2011) stops in at the Boulder Theater on Feb. 3 at 8 p.m. on the Colorado leg of his Goodbye Yeller Brick Road tour — being billed as his “final” tour. Before I even entered The Boulder Theatre I was incredibly excited and anxious to see Elephant Revival. Being a local musical group originating from Nederland, I felt proud that they had gained much traction in the past couple of years. So much so that a group named Emancipator (another one of my favorites) covered one of their songs “Forgiveness.” One of my favorite songs and one of those songs that absolutely strikes a power cord with me every time I hear it. The song is one of those that could have easily been one of the chapters to describe my life. Elephant Revival has been on the band bucket list for quite some time and I jumped immediately on the opportunity.B

I took my good friend with me to the show. Come to find he went to high school in Boulder with the sisters of Paper Bird, the opening act for Elephant Revival. I was completely blown away by the talent and the beauty of Paper Bird. The two sisters Genny and Esme Patterson along with Carleigh Aikins harmonized perfectly. Introducing Carleigh to their wonderful home of Colorado was warm and incredibly inviting. I cant wait to hear what’s next for this absolutely talented group.

Then the Revival happened. A mix of folk, bluegrass, and psychedelic country, they delivered a performance that buzzed through my entire body. The crowd at the venue were ensued with passion and heartfelt cries of joy for everyone in the band. Every single member has an incredible part to bring to the table. Bonnie Paine killed it on the washboard. It was such a treat to watch her command the stage with her presence. I was particularly intrigued with the fiddle player, Bridget Law. She reminded me so much of my little sister who also rocks at the fiddle in the way she played and her general stage presence could have easily been her doppelgänger. The gentlemen of Elephant Revival have such beautiful voices, I couldn’t help but ogle…just a tiny bit.

The way Elephant Revival are able to compliment each other so well is amazing. I knew this was going to be one heck of a performance by an incredibly talented group but I had no idea just how wonderful seeing them live would be. If Elephant Revival is playing in your town or a town near you, you should go. Become immersed in music that is so beautifully raw. Your soul will thank you.

What is funkier than the Motet’s Halloween run?

The Motet has been an integral part of the Colorado jam scene since Dave Watts (drummer, bandleader) founded the group well over 15 years ago, and on Thursday night, the Motet delivered. Kicking off a three night run at the Boulder Theatre, with their 1975 “Mixtape,” the dance party that ensued was top notch and funk at it’s finest. One word can sum up the experience and what is in store for the next two nights, “Dynomite.”

The Boulder Theatre looked great across the board with the band looking superfly and the crowd bringing eye candy to a whole new level. First set was all business, snapping into “Get off your ass and jam” into “Shaky Ground,” which immediately took the crowd on a funktastic voyage that made me stop, put my beer down, and tighten my laces.

Having seen the Motet many times over the past decade, I can say they were on fire and everyone was on their “A” game. Set two opened with the theme song from “S.W.A.T.,” and it was game on. I must say the Halloween ticket is always a tough one to snag and if you have one, you are in for a treat. The Motet consistently throws down the hottest dance party October has to offer, with a bag full of tricks in store every year, and if you are lucky enough to be going tonight or tomorrow, dust off your dancing shoes and get ready to be funked up.

Colorado band the Motet will play a series of Halloween shows this fall, including the Aggie Theatre in Fort Collins on October 29, the Boulder Theatre on October 30, and the Ogden Theatre in Denver on November 1. The theme for these shows will be “Mixtape 1975.”C

According to a press release, “The Motet teased the Halloween “Mixtape 1975” theme during the band’s set at the sold-out Red Rocks Amphitheatre show with Umphrey’s McGee this past weekend via a cover of the 1975 funk hit “Cut the Cake” by Average White Band.

The Motet’s famed Halloween shows, wherein the band performs music of their favorite funk influences (either an album in its entirety or a “mixtape’ of songs popular in a chosen year) are joyous, full of surprises and legendarily raucous. The shows have served not only to pay back the band’s fans for their loyalty but also to enhance The Motet’s understanding of who they are. Says The Motet’s drummer and founder Dave Watts, “We feel that it’s crucial to know the roots of any style of music so that you can speak the language.”

For each Halloween run of shows, The Motet study the intricacies of the chosen artists they cover and work out every minute detail, often bringing in additional musicians and vocalists so that they can fully embody the subject’s music. To date, Halloween shows have focused on the canons of such iconic artists as Stevie Wonder, P-Funk, Jamiroquai, Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters, Prince, Tower of Power and others, and last year featured ‘Mixtape 1980’.”

“More energy is being put toward writing original music, Motet vocalist Jans Ingber explains. “That’s the difference between The Motet four years ago and The Motet now.”

Sounds like a blast.

On October 29, the Gothic Theatre will host a night of nostalgic alt-rock revelry. The Psychedelic Furs and the Lemonheads are on tour together, and that Denver show is a must see. We grabbed original Fur Tim Butler to find out what we can expect…O

Yellow Scene: It’s been a while since you were here – what have you been up to?

Tim Butler: We’ve toured pretty regularly. I’ve been working, trying to sort out a new record. We have the song ideas, we’re just waiting for Richard [Butler, singer] to get up to speed on the lyrics.

YS: It’s been a while since the last record…

TB: Oh yeah, it’s been since 1992. Of course, we took a break. Rich and I formed Love Spit Love. Then I left that and formed my own band, which didn’t do anything. We got back together in 2000. It’s not so long. But it’s still 14 years since we got back together, so I’m starting to get a bit agitated too.

YS: In those three years, has the line-up changed at all?

TB: No, it’s pretty solid. I think this is the best line-up we’ve ever had.

YS: Do you enjoy playing Colorado?

TB: Oh yeah, and especially the Gothic Theatre. It’s one of my favorite places in America. I love the old cinema with the bottom level taken out and the second level seats. The atmosphere at those sort of places and the Gothic in particular is a favorite of the whole band.

YS: What are your plans for the set?

TB: The hits and the almost-hits, of course. You get lynched if you don’t do those. The last few outings, we’ve been doing stuff that we haven’t played for a while from the first album and the second album.

Barack Obama will speak in front of 75,000 plus people at Invesco Field tonight. It’s the toughest ticket in town.

Perhaps the second most difficult ticket to find is to get into the Boulder Theatre tonight for a live simulcast of the speech is sold out. It may be a little easier to find an extra to this than the real thing.

Included in the evening, which starts at 5 p.m., will be talks by Anne Parker, director of environmental studies at Naropa University, and Jared Polis, the front runner for the Second Congressional District seat. Lunch Money, a politically charged bluegrass band, will preform following the speech.
