{Looking for Men}

Age and city of residence?

34, Lafayette

What’s your occupation?

Owner of The Singing Cook, a kitchen retail shop in downtown Louisville. I have a BFA in Musical Theatre which is why the shop is called The Singing Cook. I am a classically trained soprano who prefers Broadway.

What’s a lazy Sunday activity you enjoy?

Sundays, sometimes I watch football with my family, or movies, or hang out with friends. We’ll go to lunch, or go see a movie or something like that.

What advice would you give yourself 10 years ago?

Life never takes you where you think it will. The hopes and dreams you had back then change over time. You’ll find yourself doing something you never expected. Don’t let other people define who you are or what you can do with your life.

What are your best attributes?

I’m creative, a problem solver, honest, and reliable. I’m multi-skilled and multi-talented. I’m good at learning things. I never set out to open a business, but it’s something I learned along the way, so I’m good at adapting and taking what comes and making the most of what I can with it.

What’s one of your secret guilty pleasures?

My favorite TV show is Buffy The Vampire Slayer, so I will binge-watch that from time to time. If I have a chocolate or a cake craving, I will make a microwavable chocolate cake in a mug.

What’s an annoying trait in yourself? And in others?

Talking too much is what my mother would say. I would say that I can be too indecisive and a bit of a push-over at times. As for others, people who act as though the world should revolve around them.

What are some traits you find endearing in other people?

I always think honesty is a good thing. It depends on the person. I think the things I find endearing are unique to each person.

Why do you live where you live?

I grew up in Louisville and I love this area, but I live in Lafayette simply because I couldn’t afford to buy in Louisville. Not that I don’t like Lafayette, but I wish I could live in my hometown, especially since I own a business there.

What is your favorite local hangout?

“Hangout” for me is the wrong term since I don’t have a lot of free time. But I tend to do a lot downtown, since I’m here all the time. I eat breakfast at B.O.B.S. Diner once a week, with my dad or whoever, sometimes alone. My other new favorite spot is 740 Front.

Do you have a favorite local celebrity or someone you just really admire a lot?

Not a celebrity, but I do appreciate and admire anyone who works hard to realize their dreams or goals on any scale.

What are you looking for in a relationship?

Friendship, honesty, trust, humor, mutual interests. I’m looking for someone with whom you can always be yourself, and someone who appreciates you for you.

{Looking for Women}

Age and city of residence?

34, Firestone

What is your occupation?

I own a clothing company. It’s called Effect Apparel.

What’s a lazy Sunday activity you enjoy?

I try to find a new restaurant. Something a little bit different I haven’t tried before. Sunday afternoon, I might try to find some random stores I’ve never been to. I like music, so I might try to find some new CD or record stores.

What advice would you give yourself 10 years ago?

I’d give myself some of the business advice that I’ve learned with the years of owning this business. And probably to try to date more, to try to go out there more. I work a lot, so I tend to just focus on work, and not really go socialize very much. So I’d probably would have changed that a little bit.

What are your best attributes?

I’m a hard worker, and driven. I really know what I want and go for it, which is a good thing. Deep down, I’m still a romantic. I kinda wear my heart on my sleeve. I still think that’s a good attribute. Kind of an old-school mentality, more chivalrous. I guess I think a little bit differently than this generation of men.

What is one of your secret guilty pleasures?

Probably watching a romantic comedy, I guess “chick flicks.”

What’s an annoying trait you find in yourself?

I can get annoyed easily. Not like lose my temper or crazy, but there’s things at work, or with certain friends or people, that can annoy me easily. I keep it in, but it bothers me about myself.

And what’s an annoying trait you find often in others?

This is going to sound really conceited, but not doing things the way I want ‘em done. If I have a certain way that I think something should be done, even if I’m wrong, if someone’s doing it the other way, it’s definitely something that annoys me.

What traits in other people do you find endearing?

I guess I could use the word “smarts.” But not necessarily like college smart, but just smart about things in life, or street smart. Someone’s who kind of independent, someone who has her head on her shoulders, kind of who does her own thing, and isn’t just completely ditzy.

Why do you live where you live?

I’m a Colorado native. I’m from Boulder. A few years back, I moved to California, and I lived there for a while. When I moved back from California, I lived in Denver and I just got really tired of the craziness of being in such a busy city. My family had moved to Erie when I was in high school, and so I like a little bit of the smaller town feel. After Denver, I decided to move back in this direction, and found a house I liked in Firestone, so I just chose that. I like it. It’s not as crazy as Denver or California or Boulder.

What is your favorite local hangout?

I really don’t have one around here. I don’t really hang out in Erie or Firestone or this area. On weekends, I’m just cruising down to Denver to do something.

Do you have a favorite local celebrity or someone you just really admire a lot?

I grew up with Isaac Slade, the lead singer of The Fray. He’s the only local celebrity that I’d say I look up to.

What are you looking for in that relationship?

Besides all the obvious answers of happiness and laughter and all that, really it would be someone who has their head on their shoulders. That goes back to kind of being smart in a sense. I’m looking for someone who has their own life. She’s independent. She does her thing. She has a career or whatever and I have mine. And when we’re together we can complement each other’s lives, but we have our own lives outside of that. That’s the biggest thing. Someone who really complements and makes my life better and then I make her life better.

{Looking for Men}

Age and city of residence?

61. I live in a tiny little village called Villa Grove. We’re halfway between Alamosa and Salida.

What is your occupation?

I’m the group events coordinator, the aroma therapist, and the staff minister at Joyful Journey Hot Springs.

What’s a lazy Sunday activity you enjoy?

Since Sundays are a work day for me, I don’t really have a lazy Sunday activity. A lazy activity for me is sitting beside the wood stove, knitting, or reading.

What advice would you give yourself 10 years ago?

I was just starting to work here. Well, ten years ago, I was gypsying around the country, and I stopped here, thinking I would work here for six months. So, I guess what I’d say to myself is, “You have no idea what you’re in for.”

What are your best attributes?

I’m very loyal. I’m not bad to look at. I’m pretty. I’m interesting. I’m adventurous. I’m a little brave and crazy. I’m a lot brave and crazy, actually. I’m very joyful. I enjoy my own company. I’m fun. I’m a triple Aquarius, so I also have very interesting hair. Most people are quite surprised when I tell them that I have a granddaughter that lives with me, because I have a very youthful spirit. Some things are older than they appear.

What is one of your secret guilty pleasures?

Well, if I tell you, it’s not going to be a secret any more. And I’m a Baptist preacher’s daughter, so I don’t do guilt anymore. My real secret guilty pleasure is socks. Yes, my name is Marquita and I am a sock addict.  I doubt there is a twelve step program for it so I just feed it.

What’s an annoying trait you find in yourself?

Sometimes I think I know too much. It’s only those times when I realize that I don’t know anything that I realize I’m actually smart. And talking too much.

And what’s an annoying trait you see in others?

Ignorance. That’s easy. That’s probably my biggest flaw is that I have a low tolerance for ignorance, and that’s not a good thing. And included in that is bigotry and racism, which both come from ignorance.

What traits in other people do you find endearing?

I enjoy people who are loving. I enjoy people who are joyful and have a love of life. People who like to live without drama in their lives. Mostly, people who love more than hate, and are happy and loving more than fearful. I also appreciate people who work with integrity and who live their lives with integrity. And that’s one of my best traits, is that I live with integrity.

Why do you live where you live?

Because of my job. Before I lived here, I had entered homelessness and was gypsying around the country and around the world. I found this place, I came here thinking I’d work for six months. A lot of people work here because they live here. I live here because I work here. And it’s beautiful, despite the fact that I’m freezing right now. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world.

What is your favorite local hangout?

There’s only one. Well, actually, there’s one in the summer, and there’s one in the winter. In Villa Grove, we have the Villa Grove Trade, which is open year-round until four o’clock. And then in the summer, it’s the Steel Horse, which is open from May until October. Otherwise, there’s nothing in Villa Grove except a pottery shop, a post office, and that’s about it.

Do you have a favorite local celebrity or someone you just really admire a lot?

Most people would say that’s me. You can send me a letter that says “Marquita, Villa Grove, Colorado” and I’ll get it. Or you can walk into the store and say, “Where’s Marquita?” or you can go to the courthouse and say “Who can marry me?” and they’ll all say “Marquita!”

What are you looking for in that relationship?

Gosh, I’m not looking for a relationship. If I were, the first thing I would want is someone who is adventurous, happy, someone who has integrity, good looks aren’t bad. Let’s say someone who loves live and is ready for an adventure at any moment. Someone who’s not afraid of wild women. Not afraid of strong, eccentric… let’s say eccentric because I’m old enough that I’ve outlived “weird” and “unique”. I’m into eccentric now.

{Looking for Women}

Age and city of residence?

41, Longmont

What is your occupation?

I’m currently doing plastic molding injection, but that’s going to change. In about a week, I’m going back to my old job at Prestige Chrysler-Dodge. I’m an automotive technician. I’ve been doing that for about 20 years.

What’s a lazy Sunday activity you enjoy?

I enjoy going to the pool, going to the lakes, just relaxing outdoors. When it’s sunny, I like to go up to the mountains, to the rivers, and just kind of lounge around. When it’s cold out, I normally go to the rec center, and laze around at the pool.

What advice would you give yourself 10 years ago?

Keep your kindheartedness to a minimum till you get to know people, because many will take advantage of it.

What are your best attributes?

As far as my looks, my eyes. I’ve got beautiful blue eyes. As far as my personality, I’m very kindhearted, caring, compassionate, and loving. I’m a very nice person. I put other people before myself. I help out people whenever I can.

What is one of your secret guilty pleasures?

I do like Tears for Fears.

What’s an annoying trait you find in yourself?

I’m very passive.

And what’s an annoying trait you see in others?

Aggressiveness, rudeness.

What traits in other people do you find endearing?

When people are compassionate and kindhearted.

Why do you live where you live?

I like the view of the mountains. Longmont’s got a very nice view of the mountains. Other than that, not really much. A lot of things have left Longmont, which has made Longmont kind of go downhill. There’s not really much for people to do any more, especially if you have kids. I have a daughter, and it’s hard to be able to find things to go out and do with her now.

What is your favorite local hangout?

The rec center.

Do you have a favorite local celebrity or someone you just really admire a lot?

Not that I can think of. I’m not really into the celebrity TV scene. I’m more into music. TV is all acting and to me, music is real, like real feelings and emotions.

What are you looking for in that relationship?

Somebody who is kind of like me. Someone who is kindhearted and caring. Someone who is not selfish. Somebody who thinks about their actions and about how their actions affect other people. A lot of women I’ve met like to gossip and to talk down about other people, and that’s a big red flag for me.

{Looking for Men}

Age, city of residence?

Tamara Shafer, 49, Erie

What is your occupation?

Inside sales at a water filtration company.

What’s a lazy Sunday activity you enjoy?

Household chores, walk, get out, catch a movie.

What advice would you give yourself 10 years ago?

Sometimes, when it comes to meeting someone, it’s a little bit more challenging than I would have thought. Be prepared, it can be challenging. Sometimes, life isn’t completely what it pans out to be. It doesn’t completely meet all your expectations, but you just kind of have to go with the flow.

What are your best attributes?

My outgoing personality, my people relations. “A stranger is a friend that I haven’t met” is my motto. I love getting people who don’t like to talk.

What is one of your secret guilty pleasures?

Hands down, just sweets. I’m always cooking sweets, offering sweets to folks, baking stuff. Any type of sweet or dessert. I like to bake and share.

What’s an annoying trait you find in yourself?

I won’t shut up sometimes. I have a tendency to maybe talk too much, and I crack my gum.

And what’s an annoying trait you see in others?

I like to get things done, so people who don’t. Working with people at work, or doing things with people on a personal level. So people that aren’t too motivated or kind of lackadaisical because I’ve always been kind of full-tilt.

What traits in other people do you find endearing?

Intelligence and quick-to-think folks. I’m not as quick as I know some of the people I work with, but I admire anybody that’s quick to think or kind of mentally reactive. They can come up with it very quickly, where it takes me a little bit longer sometimes, if that makes sense.

Why do you live where you live?

Oh, Erie. Small-town feel. It used to be small-town feel. Professionally-wise, I’m close to Boulder, I’m close to Longmont, I’m close to Denver. I can get to any place I want to be. I can go up to the mountains, I can go skiing, get on I-25, hey, I’m there. So, it’s a great place both professionally and recreationally. My folks live in Ft. Collins, so I visit them a lot on the weekends. It’s absolutely the perfect location and that small-town feel.

And, it’s a community. I’ve been here for 15 years, and I’m volunteering a lot in this community. Like with the Nine Health Fair. People know me, and you go out, go to stores and you see the same people over and over again and so once you get involved with a community. I guess you get kind of comfortable.

What is your favorite local hangout?

Not sure it’s local, but in the summer, it would be summer concerts.I love going to summer concerts all over the area, and dancing. Tonight I’m going to the Hofbrau because Fat Daddy’s there. So, Hofbrau would be something in the winter-time to check out. During the day, hiking trails, biking trails, just depends on who I’m doing what with, I guess. Also, being single allows me to volunteer in the area and give back to the community. So, volunteering at a special event.

Do you have a favorite local celebrity or someone you just really admire a lot?

I’m going with my parents. My folks are my inspiration. They are wonderful people. I’m vacationing with them in Hawaii in a couple months. That shows how special and unique our relationship is. They are my best friends. Financially, what I have known and what I’ve accomplished is thanks to my dad. He’s taught me well, he’s taught me the basis of saving for the future and investing. My mom was the role model for my personality and my outgoingness. When I was going to church as a child, I would watch and I would see her react with people in the congregation, and that’s where I picked that up. So, my parents most definitely are my inspiration and hat’s off to them. I’m a better person because of them.

What are you looking for in a relationship?

At my age, it would be someone who accepts me for who I am. I think as you get older, you’re not able and likely to change as much. So, be yourself when you go out on a first date, just show your weakness, and be up-front with who you are. And someone who’s accepting. Someone who’s open-minded, like, “Hey I’ll check out your music if you check out my music.” So, somebody who’s open. And I do think that financially savvy, at our age, it’s important that a person would have their act together in that aspect.

{Looking for Men}

Age and city of residence?

60, Longmont.

What is your occupation?

Feng Shui Consultant.

What’s a lazy Sunday activity you enjoy?

I’m passionate about gardening, and playing in the dirt always makes my day, when weather allows. If not, I enjoy cooking and entertaining friends.

What advice would you give yourself 10 years ago?

I would tell myself to make more time for creative endeavors. It’s such a rewarding way to spend my time. I wish I had done more of it.

What are your best attributes?

I’m curious and always learning something new. I’m creative and enjoy the arts. I have a good sense of humor, and I can usually see what’s funny in a situation. I’m compassionate and enjoy helping people. And above all, I’m happy and in a good place in my life.

What is one of your secret guilty pleasures?

Occasionally, I get sucked in by those funny and inspiring Internet animal videos. Animals are amazing. They make me laugh.

What’s an annoying trait you find in yourself?

I have a tendency to procrastinate. Life is just so much better when you just take care of stuff and you don’t have to worry about it.

And what’s an annoying trait you see in others?

It’s really annoying to me that so many people are reluctant to commit to any activity and plan ahead. They just don’t commit, whether they’re going to come or not. I like to give a lot of parties, and I just don’t get answers as to whether they’re going to be there or not.

What traits in other people do you find endearing?

I admire people who have gone through difficult times in their lives and the inner strength they develop after going through those experiences. I just like those kind of people.

Why do you live where you live?

Originally, I moved to Longmont because I had family here, but then I fell in love with my 1898 house and I can’t imagine living anywhere else. Everyone says this house reflects my personality, and I really do feel like it’s a fit.

What is your favorite local hangout?

Indoors, it would be the Dickens Opera House for dancing. Outdoors would be walking around MacIntosh Lake.

Do you have a favorite local celebrity or someone you just really admire a lot?

I don’t know if you’ve heard of Gamma Acosta, a Longmont street artist. He creates these incredibly detailed art works using spray paint. He’s amazing.

What are you looking for in a relationship?

I would like to be in a committed relationship, long-term relationship, with a man who shares my interests and introduces me to new ones. A sense of humor is really important. Someone who will take me dancing. Good chemistry always makes it magical.

{Looking for Women}

Age and city of residence?

26, Boulder

What is your occupation?

I’m a graduate student at CU, in the Physics Department.

What’s a lazy Sunday activity you enjoy?

Going out with my friends, getting some fro-yo, maybe getting a smothered burrito, maybe watching some Netflix.

What advice would you give yourself 10 years ago?

It turns out that AC/DC isn’t the pinnacle of musicianship, so I’d tell myself to branch out from classic rock. There is so much more out there, like Drake.

What are your best attributes?

I’m genuine, good sense of humor, pretty laid-back, I guess. Those would be the top three, I’d say.

What is one of your secret guilty pleasures?

It would probably be lazy Sundays, getting fro-yo with my friends. Sometimes I drop ten dollars on a bucket of fro-yo. I’m not proud of it, but when they get you to the fixin’s table, and there’s hot fudge, there’s caramel, there’s sprinkles. It’s too much.

What’s an annoying trait you find in yourself?

Joshin’. Joshin’ around, I guess.

And what’s an annoying trait you see in others?

I’m one of those people – the sound of chewing. Like if you are slurping your cereal, like a bad vacuum cleaner. That really gets to me. It’s one of those things that you don’t think when someone describes it to you that it would really get to you, but then when it happens it’s just nails on a chalkboard.

What traits in other people do you find endearing?

A willingness to laugh at themselves. An open mind, I guess. Not close-minded.

Why do you live where you live?

Well, it’s one of the best graduate schools for what I wanted to do, so I moved here from Canada, from the barren Arctic north. And it also has some of the best climbing and mountain biking in North America, so that was a huge draw for me.

What is your favorite local hangout?

Probably the Ku Cha House of Tea, or Mexicali for their delicious smothered burrito. I’ll give them a shout out. They’re doing good work down there, both places.

Do you have a favorite local celebrity or someone you just really admire a lot?

Tommy Caldwell. He’s this huge mountain climber guy. It’s really an ironic tragedy kind of a thing. While fixing up his home, he cut off two of his fingers. He’s still one of the best mountain climbers in the world. I mean, with eight fingers, props to that guy.

What are you looking for in that relationship?

Just try to keep an open mind, see what comes along. Someone to have lazy Sundays with, but also fun Friday nights, and adventuresome Saturdays. You know, the big three.

{Looking for Men}

Age and city of residence?

60, Boulder

What is your occupation?

I’m an admin assistant at NCAR.

What’s a lazy Sunday activity you enjoy?

I’m doing it right now. I’m reading a fun book. I like to read quite a bit. That would be a lazy activity, yes.

What advice would you give yourself 10 years ago?

To be my own best advocate. To appreciate my unique strengths and qualities and to take the time to savor every minute of this precious and finite life.

What are your best attributes?

I feel I’m relatively intelligent. I’m very loyal and hardworking. I enjoy my friends, my friendships. I like to stay physically fit.

What is one of your secret guilty pleasures?

It would probably be going to a spa and having a massage, or a facial, or a pedicure. Eating a yummy dessert.

What’s an annoying trait you find in yourself?

I tend to be a little bit of a controller, especially with family members. I sometimes will interfere too much in how they’re running their lives. I don’t mind my own business.

And what’s an annoying trait you see in others?

Someone who is very outspoken, but in a very opinionated manner, and not being respectful of the other person’s point of view.

What traits in other people do you find endearing?

Someone who’s a good listener, someone who is affectionate, kind and trustworthy.

Why do you live where you live?

I moved out here in 1977 to go to CU and I finished my undergraduate degree. At the time, it was the early 80’s, my ex-husband bought a home in south Boulder. We fell in love with the area. I love the mountains, I love cross-country skiing. I love hiking. I like being outdoors and I like all the sunshine and the moderate climate that we have. The natural beauty.

What is your favorite local hangout?

One of my favorite local hangouts is Caffe Sole in south Boulder. And I enjoy hanging out at home.

Do you have a favorite local celebrity or someone you just really admire a lot?

I really admire the people who run eTown. I guess it’s Nick and Helen Forster. I really enjoy listening to the program — the eTown program — with live music.

What are you looking for in a relationship?

I’m looking for someone who also enjoys the outdoors and enjoys nature. I’m looking for someone who is caring and considerate. And someone who also is intelligent and enjoys conversation. Someone who is relatively stable, financially and otherwise. And very importantly, sense of humor.

{Looking for Men}

Age and city of residence?

34, Superior

What is your occupation?

I’m a professor.

What’s a lazy Sunday activity you enjoy?

Watching football during football season. Just kind of hiking and being out with my friends when it’s not football season.

What advice would you give yourself 10 years ago?

Don’t take life so seriously, everything will work out for the best. And just be happy.

What are your best attributes?

I would say funny, outgoing. I’m loyal to my friends. I think I’m a good aunt to my nieces and nephews. I like to have fun, I’m spontaneous. I am smart.

What is one of your secret guilty pleasures?

This is going to sound funny, but sleeping in. A secret guilty pleasure, I guess for me, and kind of a weird thing, would be that I like to play fantasy football.

What’s an annoying trait you find in yourself?

I tend to be a worrier. I don’t know if that’s too attractive. But I probably tend to be a worrier. If I could change one thing, it would be not to worry so much.

And what’s an annoying trait you see in others?

I don’t really get easily annoyed. I’m pretty laid back, but if I had to say something, it would probably be, maybe being late, I guess.

What traits in other people do you find endearing?

I like people who tend to be incredibly sunny, a good listener. I like to hang out with people who like to have fun. Selflessness, I think.

Why do you live where you live?

I was born and raised in Colorado, then I went away for undergrad and grad school. I moved away for 10 years. I was working in Mississippi, at the University of Southern Mississippi at the time, and the University of Northern Colorado job opened up. I just had to take it because I wanted to get back to Colorado so bad. I’m through and through Colorado. Love being here, it just feels so good to be home. So that’s definitely why I live where I live.

What is your favorite local hangout?

Because I’m 30-something, I like hanging out in downtown Louisville. That’s really an up-and-coming new place that I love to hang out. I like hanging out at Por, La Rev. Occasionally I’ll go into Boulder for happy hour, but it’s mainly downtown Louisville.

Do you have a favorite local celebrity or someone you just really admire a lot?

This is going to sound weird, but I kind of admire the United States Women’s National Soccer Team for winning the World Cup this year. That was a big thing in women’s sports.

If you’re looking for a relationship, what are you looking for in that relationship?

I’m looking for somebody who’s always got my back, somebody who is OK with somebody who has a significant career. I’m definitely looking for someone who likes to have fun, but yet has all their ducks in a row. It’s hard to find that balance, it’s either they have all their ducks in a row and they don’t like to have fun and go out and do things, or they like to go out way too much and they don’t have anything together. So, I’m looking for somebody who’s responsible, fun, and who not only will get along with me but [also] my friends. That’s definitely important. I don’t think people like to say that, but it’s important to me.
