All This For a Torch?

This Olympic Torch ordeal is getting out of control. And, no, I am not referring to the whole human rights protesters.

That’s a whole different story.

As China, the worst polluting nation in the world, tries to ease environmental concerns for athletes, politicians and activists, this little torch is putting together a carbon footprint equal to that of a few developing nations. The Sierra Club is reporting that the torch’s tour will use the equivalent of more than 400,000 gallons of gas and produce the emissions of 665 cars. It would take planting 93,000 trees to offset this.

During a time that we are all trying our best to improve the environment, a torch has its own private jet and gets its very own hotel room when it tramps the globe.

This is ridiculous.
