The thought of riding a bike across the United States can be overwhelming. But each summer, groups get together and trek the continent taking a few months to accomplish the impressive feat. Some even raise money for a good cause while doing it.

Tim Case, a Boulder firefighter, thinks he can cycle it in 10 days. He hopes to raise a few thousand bucks for his charity of choice, too.

Case, the lead member of Team Strong Heart, will be competing in the solo division of the Race Across America. The race starts in June in Oceanside, Calif., and ends in Annapolis, Md. Tim has some added motivation—raising money and awareness for Camp Odayin, which provides young people with heart disease an opportunity to discover outdoor, athletic and creative activities.

These kids in many cases have undergone multiple heart surgeries and simply want to act like children for a few weeks. Odayin, a Minnesota-based camp, offers that chance.

It costs money (the camp only charges attendees $25)—that’s were people like Tim Case come in. Case is holding a fund raiser 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Redfish Brewhouse, 2027 13th St., Boulder. A $15 donation gets you in the door, and of course there will be food, booze and music.

Learn more about Case’s quest by visiting his blog. And check out the May issue of Yellow Scene Magazine for a look into what drives Case, the faces of Odayin.
