This year, Thanksgiving falls on Nov. 27. As it turns out, a few other interesting things happened on this same date in history:
1895:
Alfred Nobel established the Nobel Peace Prize. And then, 99 years later, Yasser Arafat won it, proving nothing good lasts forever.
1934:
Notorious bank robber Baby Face Nelson walked directly into a hail of bullets in an attempt to kill two FBI agents in a scene recalled later as the Battle of Barrington. He was shot 17 times.
1940:
Bruce Lee was born. Chuck Norris wasn’t scared.
1957:
The National Guard finally was able to withdraw from Little Rock, Arkansas, after the integration of Central High School…paving the way for a black man to run for president 51 years later.
1970:
A Bolivian man disguised as a priest stabbed Pope Paul VI in the chest with a dagger in the Philippines. And 37 years later, most Americans still can’t find Bolivia or the Philippines on
a map.
