Run It Off
You know it’s coming—the next two months are gonna be filled with fattening foods: cornbread, mashed potatoes and gravy, turkey with stuffing, all kinds of cakes, and cookies and chocolate and macaroons and Chanukah gelt and candy canes… Er, anyhoo, why not kickstart your metabolism early with a run? For 34 years, the annual Longmont Turkey Trot has been keeping area residents fit with its popular 10K race. Too far? Maybe the 2-mile Fun Run’s more your speed. Either way, it benefits a good local cause—the City of Longmont Recreation Service’s Youth Scholarship Fund. 9 a.m. Nov. 8, Westview Middle School, 1651 Airport Road, Longmont, $20+, 303.651.8406

Ready, Set, Go
Lots of reality shows are based on fast-paced drama; Iron Chef, Top Chef, America’s Next Top Model, Trading Spaces. All have their own version of the quick challenge—make something in 47 minutes. Now, you can see something like this take shape live on stage as the Longmont Theatre Company hosts a 24-hour challenge. More than 40 local student actors will have one day to produce three short plays. Admission is free, no reservations needed. 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29, 513 Main St., Longmont, 303.772.5200

Turkey Blasting
Ah, November. Forest floors carpeted in brilliant shades of reds and golds, the smell of burning leaves and cinnamon permeating the early evenings, the awesome turkey shoots…. What? Too barbaric? Don’t worry, you’re not busting caps in hapless fowls’ junk; you’re shooting free throws to win an already-plucked and frozen bird. The best shooter in each age bracket wins a tasty turkey. 6 p.m. Nov. 21, Bob L. Burger Rec Center, 111 W. Baseline Road, Lafayette, $1-$6, 303.665.0469

Ice Makes it Better
What is it about putting things on ice that makes them so much more popular? We’re thinking it might be some sort of conspiracy to create a cottage industry to support aging figure skaters who are too old to compete in the Olympics. Regardless, people love stuff on ice. Disney’s High School Musical: The Ice Tour! features all the beloved music and characters the movies, as performed by a cast of seriously awesome skaters. Various show times Dec. 5-7, Broomfield Event Center, 11450 Broomfield Lane, $14+, 303.410.TIXS
