Age: 35
Sex: Female
Profession: Nonprofit pregnancy care center; director of the Campus Office at CU Boulder
Where do you live: Superior
Have you participated in Tough Mudder before: No
Have you participated in any other mud competitions, like Warrior Dash or MuckRuckus: No, this will be my inaugural event!
What got you interested in participating: I love a good challenge and have had friends do it ad love it! And pushing myself out of my comfort zone makes me a better athlete.
Describe your training regimen for the event: My training has mostly involved my CrossFit regimen—a combination of high intensity weight training and endurance. However, I have realized that my running has needed lots of improvement, so I will be doing some specific running training with Craig David of Max Muscle Sports Nutrition, Boulder.
When did you start training: A true athlete is constantly in training, but like I said, I’ve had to step it up a notch from the time I signed up (mid-March).
Are you part of a Tough Mudder team: Yes! The Max Muscle Boulder Team
Tough Mudder can be an intimidating event. Any fears or concerns: I am totally game for everything except the electric shock I keep hearing about. That isn’t exactly my idea of something to look forward to! I heard about one guy “coming to, face down in a pool of mud.” Let’s hope that’s not my story!
Are you in it for the die-hard competition or more for the fun: This year I’m in it for the fun. After this initiation, I may be ready to try die-hard competition next year…stay tuned!
At Tough Mudder, contestants’ attire ranges from hardcore athletic gear to Halloween-style costumes. What do you plan on wearing, and why: I will not be wearing any costume or anything fun and crazy like that; I like to be “as naked as possible” when I do something this intense…so we’ll see how that turns out!
How have your friends and family reacted to you doing Tough Mudder: Some have no idea what it is. Some say I’m crazy. And some say, “How fun!!”
Besides Tough Mudder, what’s the most extreme thing you’ve ever done: The most extreme thing I’ve ever done would have to be Sky Diving…talk about an exhilarating experience!
