Wailing Away

The Wailers, along with Bob Marley, delivered reggae music to the world, launching a movement as cultural as it was musical. Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh and the Barrett Brothers got their start the same year as the Summer of Love, which fits, considering the powerfully positive nature of the genre. Today, Marley’s spirit lives on with this legendary reggae group, which has sold a combined 250 million albums worldwide. A few of the names have changed, but the spirit of the music and all the soul remain. If you’re a reggae fan, then you love the Wailers. Period. Say Cheese

Ring in the New Year with The String Cheese Incident, the best (and only) band to ever get their name from a food fight. These Colorado natives hit it big after forming in Telluride back in 1993, helping launch a new genre of Colorado-bred, grass-steeped jam rock. The String Cheese Incident returns home for a three-night stand over the New Year’s holiday. The Funny Bones

Start 2013 with a whole lot of laughter with this great one-night show. Chuckle the night away with The Comedy Crew featuring Elliot Woosley, John Crist, Vinnie Montez and Troy Walker. With shows at 7 and 9 p.m., you’ll want to get your tickets early for this one. These up-and-coming standup comics are some of the hottest names on the scene right now, especially Elliot Woolsey, who’s already on a major national star-track. Cinema Paradiso

BIFF is back. Yes, from Feb. 14 through 17, the Boulder International Film Festival takes over the city with plenty of incredible film from independent studios as well as huge stars. This four-day fest has been named one of the “25 Coolest Film Festivals” in the world, and often attracts such big names as James Franco, Alec Baldwin, Oliver Stone and more. It’s the red carpet in Boulder, and it’s always an exciting event. Tickets are on sale, and the lineup should be announced very soon.
