CFDA Awards Recap

Last night was the annual CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) awards, which honor the best of the best in the fashion world.L

This star-studded event had an impressive list of presenters and attendees, including Gigi Hadid, Kim Kardashian West, Katie Holmes and Zachary Quinto.

The awards were presented for menswear, womenswear, and accessories. There was also the Lifetime Achievement Award, which is presented each year to a designer that has made a significant impact in the fashion world.

The Menswear Designer of the Year winner was Tom Ford. Ford designed for major labels such as Perry Ellis, Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. Ford left Gucci and began designing for his own label in 2006. Ford won the Lifetime Achievement Award last year.

The Womenswear Designer of the Year winner was The Row, the couture apparel brand started by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. The Row was launched in 2006, named after Savile Row in London. The Olsen twins also won Womenswear Designer of the Year in 2012.

This year, the Lifetime Achievement Award winner was Betsey Johnson. At 72, Johnson surprised the crowd by doing her signature splits on stage when accepting her award. Johnson began her own fashion line in 1978 and is known for her feminine and whimsical designs.

Swarovski Award for Womenswear: Rosie Assoulin

Swarovski Award for Menswear: Shayne Oliver for Hood by Air

Swarovski Award for Accessory Design: Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel for Mansur Gavriel

The Media Award in Honor of Eugenia Sheppard: Instagram

The Founder’s Award in Honor of Eleanor Lambert: Millard “Mickey” Drexler, CEO and Chairman of the Board of J.Crew Group, Inc.

International Award: Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino
