Tucked inside the San Juan Mountains of the Colorado Rockies and across the mountain from Telluride, Dunton Hot Springs has been through a few transformations before it became a luxurious resort with mineral hot springs. Embrace the history of the Wild West around you, while easing your winter weary bones into its warmness embrace.

Present Day Dunton
Today, visitors praise the pristine landscape and the restored hand-built cabins that make it feel like you’ve traveled back in time before stepping inside. On the outside, the log cabins give off a sense of history, some dating back to the 1800s; the last thing we want to feel is like we’re still at home in reality. This is a vacation.
Step inside and you’re back in the 21st century, with exquisite antiques and furnishings, while remaining true to the rustic look. Some of our favorite features include private baths, burning stoves, and decks. Each of the cabins has mountain views, circle the Saloon and Dance Hall, and are mere steps to the bath house.
The Saloon has a wondrous sense of place. Guests are welcome to swing through, or stay awhile and eat meals freshly cooked by the chefs who pluck ingredients directly from their farm. And we can’t forget about the wine they’ll offer you: produced at their vineyard, planted with 12 acres of Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Petit Verdo.
As part of a tradition from the big cattle oulaws, everyone eats together at a long antique dining table. If eating or socializing with fellow strangers isn’t your cup of tea, though, you’re welcome to eat separately. Dunton Hot Springs do not have sulfur, which eliminates the funky odors that can result.
Local Winter Sports
Dunton will give you all the experiences of a winter wonderland. Within a short drive, you can strap on snowshoes, venture out on skis (cross-country and heli-skiing), go hiking, take a stroll, partake in winter horseback riding in the canyon surrounding their vineyard, go dogsledding, have fun ice skating, try out ice climbing, or go snowmobiling.
In this winter wonderland, you choose: watch the falling snow as you soak or play in the snow and then soak.
