Last pop-up of the 2023 season for Boulder Social Streets

As part of the City of Boulder’s program to experiment with transformation of our downtown streets for gathering and happenings, the Downtown Boulder Partnership (DBP) has worked with community groups to hold a series of eight Boulder Social Streets pop-up events on 13^th Street (between Arapahoe Avenue and Canyon Boulevard) this summer. This Sunday, Sept. 24, the eighth and final summer pop-up, Community Art Day, happens on 13^th Street, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The community is encouraged to visit and experience this free event and participate in free collective art activities.

Participating local arts groups are Boulder Open Studios Mobile Art Lab, Street Wise Arts, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA), Nobo Arts District, Museum of Boulder, a local arts therapy group, and local artist Jennifer Chaparro leading the Chalk4Peace/Boulder in Color community art event with a co-created chalk mural on the Dushanbe Teahouse asphalt pad.

Additionally, local artist Edica Pacha, known as “Pacha,” is doing an iteration of her wheat paste project to gather thoughts from our community on Boulder Social Streets. This project is a large-scale, two-dimensional installation on the street, and is funded by the Experiments in Public Art program within the City of Boulder’s Office of Arts + Culture. A question asked as part of this project is “What are your hopes and dreams for Boulder Social Streets?” The community can learn about others’ hopes and dreams and express theirs, and will see the feedback documented in a community “paste up” about social streets and shared with city staff and Boulder City Council to inform the design of a future, citywide social streets program.

“Community Art offers the opportunity to come together and use creativity as a means of collective vision,” said Pacha, the artist organizing the community “paste up” about Boulder Social Streets. “We use art as a pathway to develop conversations about important topics and work together to inspire impact within each other and the greater community.”
