Colorado Bar Association Launches Statewide Video Contest for High School Students to Explore Rule of Law Principles
Contest Offers $1,500 Prize Pool and Creative Platform for Civic Education
DENVER, CO – September 5, 2025 – The Colorado Bar Association’s Rule of Law Task Force today announced the launch of an innovative video contest designed to engage Colorado high school students in exploring fundamental democratic principles through creative storytelling.
The contest invites students ages 14-18 to produce 30-60 second educational videos examining core rule of law concepts that underpin American democracy. Participants may choose from four essential topics: Respect for the Rule of Law, Judicial Independence, The Right to Counsel, and Separation of Powers.
Contest Details:
  • Eligibility: Colorado high school students (ages 14-18)
  • Submission Period: September 2 – October 31, 2025
  • Prize Pool: $1,500 total, with first place receiving $500
  • Format: Open to all creative approaches, including live action, animation, AI-generated content, or hybrid formats
  • Focus: Message clarity and educational impact over production quality
“This contest represents an exciting intersection of civic education and modern creativity,” said Tali Thomason, Director of Communications and Marketing and Rule of Law Task Force Liaison. “We’re providing students with a platform to explore these crucial legal concepts while embracing the tools and formats that resonate with their generation.”
The initiative welcomes the use of AI assistance, recognizing that students can leverage technology while still demonstrating a genuine understanding of constitutional principles. Contest organizers emphasize that educational impact and message clarity will be prioritized over technical sophistication.
The contest aligns with Colorado’s civics education standards. It offers value for students involved in Mock Trial programs, providing an opportunity to deepen their understanding of judicial system foundations through creative expression.
Winners will receive recognition through featured placement on the Colorado Bar Association’s website and LinkedIn, providing valuable exposure for student participants.
Complete contest details, rules, and submission guidelines are available at the contest website.
