Boulder Country Day School to Host BIPOC Day of Affinity for Independent Middle School Students

Impactful event, founded through a student initiative, continues to grow four years later

BOULDER, CO, April 2026 – Boulder Country Day School (BCD) will host the BIPOC Day of Affinity for Front Range independent school students who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) on April 27th. Approximately 100 students and chaperones will gather for a day of speakers, games, collaboration, and connection.

Participating schools include Colorado Academy, Dawson School, International School of Denver, The Logan School, and Montessori Academy of Colorado.

Keynote Speaker: Marina LaGrave
Marina LaGrave works with Boulder County’s Office of Sustainability, Climate Action and Resilience (OSCAR). She is the founder of Colorado Language Access and Cultural Experts (CLACE) and Explorando Senderos de Boulder. Her work focuses on language access, diversity and inclusion, community engagement, intercultural program development, and cross-cultural communication.

LaGrave founded Explorando Senderos de Boulder in late 2020, during the COVID-19 crisis, to support Latinx community members facing both physical and mental health challenges during the pandemic.

Guest Speaker: Gavin Winters
Gavin Winters is the student founder of the Day of Affinity initiative. The first BIPOC Day of Affinity was held in 2023 as part of his 8th Grade Capstone Project at Boulder Country Day School. His goal was to create a space where BIPOC students could build connections and find support in a safe, empowering environment. Gavin is currently a junior at Boulder High School.

Boulder Country Day School is proud to support this student-driven initiative, which reflects the school’s commitment to fostering inclusion, belonging, and empathetic citizenship. By creating space for meaningful connection and shared experiences, the Day of Affinity empowers students to better understand themselves, support one another, and confidently engage with the world around them—both now and in the future.

Boulder Country Day School is a leading private school serving students 2 ½ years old – 8th grade. In partnership with our outstanding faculty and committed families, we uphold the highest standard for our balanced educational experience. Through small class sizes and innovative engagement in a supportive environment, students at BCD learn to explore their strengths and apply them to the world. Guided by our values, we believe the empowered minds that graduate from BCD will be the ones to ignite global change.
